Orbán accuses Brussels of pushing for regime change in Hungary since 2010

Change language:

Brussels has been seeking a change of government in Hungary “with growing intensity and determination” since 2010, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in an interview with the Patriota YouTube channel on Wednesday.

The prime minister said it was not just in Hungary that Brussels wanted to see a change of government, “but in every country that had a patriotic government against the liberal centralisation efforts of the Brussels bureaucrats”.

“It has always been these governments that they have tried to oust, including us, including me,” Orbán said, adding that he could recall “exactly how … they tried to achieve this in each election”.

“We’ve always fended these off,” the prime minister said, adding that “what we’re seeing now” was a continuation of those efforts.

Orbán said the players were always changing, and now “they’re favouring the Tisza Party and Péter Magyar. That’s clear to everyone.”

“The essence of it doesn’t change, in fact it has become more and more shameless,” he said.

Orbán said that at the European Parliament session where he presented the Hungarian EU presidency’s programme, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European People’s Party leader Manfred Weber had “introduced Magyar as the head of the future Hungarian government to be backed by Brussels”.

He said that the “aggressive uproar” seen today — mainly outside parliament — was not unprecedented, but it had not been common, “and has by now become the voice of opposition politics”. Orbán added that it was important to be able to respond to “all manners of attacks”.

Meanwhile, Orbán said there were two ongoing geopolitical developments today. One of them, he said, was a global paradigm shift, the other a change taking place within the Western world. The East was becoming stronger and the West weaker, he added. The other trend, he said, concerned the liberal-progressive and patriotic worldviews in the West that have been in opposition to one another since the end of the Cold War.

“What’s happening now is that the liberals are losing and the patriots are winning,” he said.

The biggest victory, he added, had been Donald Trump’s re-election in the United States, which gave the Western world a chance to become strong again and define its place in the global paradigm shift.

Orbán said the “last bridgehead of the liberals” was Brussels, adding that patriots were now winning elections everywhere in Europe, and “sooner or later Europeans will have to undertake a patriotic political shift”.

He said the Republican victory in the US presidential election meant that “pro-migration politics is dead in the Western world and gender politics is dead”, adding that he hoped that “the days of pro-war politics are also numbered”. The last European Parliament election ushered in a majority that favours change, with political forces representing change winning in 17 of the bloc’s 27 member states, he said.

Orbán said Hungary was certain to benefit in three ways from Trump’s election win. These, he said, were economic in nature, and it would be determined later “whether Hungarians have hit the jackpot”. He said that while the Democratic US administration had refused to extend the double taxation avoidance agreement with Hungary, this agreement would now be concluded.

That administration, he added, was also “penalising Hungarians for political and ideological reasons” when it came to visa policy, but this, too, would end. Thirdly, Orbán said, American investors would invest in Hungary, adding that he was working to attract investments in advanced technology, bringing jobs and capital to the country. He said the positive impact of the Republican victory on the world would be felt in 1-2 years’ time.

  1. In other words “Keep me in power no matter how corrupt I am and how incompetently my government manages the economy because if you get rid of me that is what the people in “Brussels” want.” Maybe it might come to pass that both the people in Brussels and the Hungarian public both want regime change.

    • Exactly, Larry. “Brussels” can’t dictate what the Hungarian people want, and they know that. So does the current government of Hungary. That is exactly why the current regime keeps feeding the people “misinformation”……..You know, that same kind of stuff that used to be known as “Lies”.

  2. THEY called it RIGHT.
They saw a “rotten” apple in the apple box.
THEY have PLENTY of evidence, as do the citizens of Hungary, of ALL member countrys of the European Union as does the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the United States of America and countrys of the Global World, that are GOVERNED under DEMOCRACY.
A decade, that has seen a Politician, a Prime Minister and a Government, that have CRUSHED Democracy in Hungary, and TRASHED the Economy.
A Government, under Victor Mihaly Orban – that has just OBLIVIATED century “aged ” friendships, that had respect associated to them some being “trading” partners.
WHAT – has Hungary been DELIVERED – just not in the past decade, but from near on 16 years, this Orban led Fidesz Government have been, the Government of Hungary – what have they DELIVERED us, individually, as a country, our INTERNATIONAL image and reputation as a country, other than those who are Governed under COMMUNISM, what have we been DELIVERED ???
Delivered in being an Economic & Financial “Mine” Field.
Orban, has led us to a point, that of our RETURN, as a country, with any resemblance of having a FUTURE is – IMPLAUSABLE.
Hungarians – if we belief we have a FUTURE – its SOLIDARITY to-getherness .
Hungarians in SOLIDARITY – we must not be seen as the aggressors in conflicts – objections, disagreements with this “Heinous” led Orban – Fidesz Government of Hungary.
Hungarians – intensify through SOLIDARITY we MUST – in our FIGHT to remove, see, the DOWNFALL outing of this Orban led Fidesz Government – driven by TRUTH , truth, truth – FACTUAL Truth(s).
FIGHTING, the mounting CHALLENGE to rid ourselves of this Orban led – Fidesz Government, besides TRUTH, truth, truth – FACT(s) – is NOT to RAISE our Voiced but to STRENGTHEN them.
Our MESSAGE – in SOLIDARITY that can and MUST calmly , being not the aggressors, but DEMONSTRATES people POWER .
TRUTH – is like a Lion, you don’t have to DEFEND it.
Let it LOOSE – it WILL Defend it-self.

  3. Brussels has been trying to interfere in Hungary’s internal affairs. Brussel’s thought that Hungary will be a useful idiot and say Yawohl to everything and cede sovereignty like Poland and Check Republic.

    • @maria can you mention one union where countries were fully sovereign? I do not say the eu should interfare in internal afairs, but as I have mentioned before, Hungary wants the benefits but not the obligations. Besides, i think this is just orban fearing the rise of Peter Magyar. Its time to hear and see the dirty political war of fidesz against peter, just the the democrats did with trump no long time ago.

  4. Dear Jose two wrongs never make a right. Hungary must retain its sovereignty to survive. Hungarians do not belong in either the Slavic or Germanic Tribe. Hungary has a unique culture, language. In North America, many Native Tribes totally died out. The world lost the language and culture of these tribes; the world is poorer for it.

Being unique should be appreciated instead of the majority wanting to dilute the culture, the language . Europe is lucky to have Hungarians.,

  5. Hungary gave asylum to Polish Deputy Justice Minister, Marcin Romanowski. Tusk is furious. The Tusk government has been politically persecuting previous government minister.

Tusk refuses to accept the fact that allegations do not equal empirical facts. Tusk is an EU puppet. Brussels is determined to wipe out the right-wing political parties and its members. Right -wing political parties are harder to control than idiot socialists.

    Well-done P.M. Orban and well-done Hungary.

P.M. Netanyahu is not even attending a memorial service for Holocaust victims because Tusk will have him arrested in Poland.
