Orbán calls for parliament to debate 2007-2013 EU funding
Budapest (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has called for a debate in parliament how European Union funding for Hungary was used in the 2007-2013 period, according to a letter from Orbán addressed to Speaker of Parliament László Kövér.
Orbán said the government successfully closed the 2007-2013 development cycle on December 31, 2015 and it was able to pay out all of the 8.6 trillion forints (EUR 27.5bn) worth of funding available for Hungary. He said the government had also averted a loss of funding, which many had predicted would certainly happen, and it signed contracts for 9.536 trillion forints worth of developments, more than the amount it could draw down from the European Commission.
The government needs to brief lawmakers about the end of the seven-year period with its experiences and lessons, Orbán said in his letter.
