Keeping Hungary out of the war in Ukraine is in the interest of the Hungarian people, so the country will not send guns or soldiers to the war zone, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Monday. Neither will Hungary allow lethal aid across the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, he said in a video statement.
Orbán said that Hungary’s national security body which convened earlier today had decided against allowing weapons across the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. “We’ve decided against allowing such shipments,” he said, adding that
nothing should be allowed that would jeopardise the security of Hungarians living in Transcarpathia.
Orbán said that in the midst of war, sober-mindedness was required. “Naturally, we’re providing humanitarian aid,” he said, noting that Hungarian aid shipments had arrived in Ukraine on Sunday and Monday. The prime minister also noted that refugees arriving from over the border were being taken care of.
A nationwide donation drive launched by Hungary’s ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrat (KDNP) alliance has collected several tonnes of donations for ethnic Hungarians in western Ukraine and people fleeing the fighting in the country, the parties said on Monday.
Hungary must do everything it can to stay out of the war between Russia and Ukraine, KDNP lawmaker Lőrinc Nacsa said in a video message from Miskolc, in north-eastern Hungary. Katalin Csöbör, a lawmaker of Fidesz added, at the same time, that
the ruling parties were helping the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia and those fleeing Ukraine.
Fidesz’s Miskolc office is filled with donations and some have even offered to open their empty flats to refugees, Csöbör said, adding that the parties were continuously looking for more places in the city to accommodate refugees.

Of course he won’t, he cannot.. They are not trained to war, just to pose on insta with uniforms.
Jaffa, With respect this is no time for making childish jokes.
You notice that the most vocal people supporting a bigger conflict are thousands of kilometres from the Ukrainian or Russian borders!
It is a sensible decision for Hungary to stay out of this conflict.
Dear Bruce,
What was childish about my comment?
While in the recent years Russia have been fighting all over the middle east and training their army to wars the Hungarian soldiers spent their time doing border patrols at best. That isn’t close to combats. Hence it is a wise decision not to send them and obviously the best interest of Hungary.
and when Hungary is the next invaded… repeat 1956… and begs for Arms to save itself and Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia say no you can’t send weapons through our country? No one is asking Hungary to send weapons, to send troops, only to allow transit. Play it both ways Hungary, don’t step on the Bears toes, but don’t wonder when the Bear bites and no one listens to your cry for help. Or perhaps the real story is a back room deal where Hungary is mostly quiet and is given a chunk of Ukraine?
Our foreign minister Péter Szijjártó said that, despite reports aired on Radio Free Europe in October 1956 suggesting imminent international intervention to support the Hungarian revolution, “nobody came to help”.
“We Hungarians wanted to belong to the free world, but that world left us high and dry,” Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Saturday October 23, 2021, marking the anniversary of the outbreak of the anti-Soviet revolt, adding that the country lost not only its fight but also “freedom for more than three decades”.
Well, well, well …
Well, well indeed. So Hungary will choose the way of double speak, side with whomever seems like the winner and once again be on the wrong side of history. Remember young Tibor, Hungary, in WWII, was on the side of the Nazi’s, hoped to keep the land they had annexed with Hitler’s help. Perhaps Putin will offer a sweet deal as well? Take a bit of Ukraine for not allowing weapons transit. So now after three decades of “freedom” Hungary still doesn’t want tho help others? Once again go it alone or join with Uncle Vladi. Once again on the wrong side of history?
Jaffar : ” While in the recent years Russia have been fighting all over the middle east ”
Really ? Was it Russia that sent them to Syria? Lebanon? Afghanistan ? Libya ? Was it Russia that declared Israel a state?
Was it Russia that broke down the Yugoslavian empire ? Was it Russia that split up India and Pakistan ?
All these deeds above were committed by NATO , you are on the wrong side of history but too infatuated with your own virtue signalling.
