Orbán-inflation, cost-of-living crisis, pensioners living on pennies, Socialists say
The opposition Socialist party has submitted a resolution proposal on increasing the purchasing power of pensions, the party’s deputy leader said on Monday.
Lajos Korózs told an online press conference that the government’s flawed economic policies had resulted in an “Orbán-inflation” of well over 20 percent over the past year. There is clearly a cost-of-living crisis in Hungary with one of the two million pensioners receiving less than HUF 160,000 (EUR 430) a month.
The Socialists propose a return to the mixed indexation of pensions, which involves taking into consideration projected inflation and net wage increase to equal measure. He also called for restoring a ceiling for contribution payments, adding that with the polarisation of pensions over that past several years, one million forints should be introduced as a ceiling for pension contribution.
He said that in order to close the gap, in the next five years, everyone should receive pension increase indexed to inflation but in line with the mixed indexation system. The party also wants the old-age minimum pension to be at least 70 percent of the net minimum wage.

Inflation at over 20% in the last (12) twelve months – what PLANET is this Guy living on.
Hungary 0ver the past (12) twelve months has witnessed INFLATION running at over 42%.
Get out there and speak with the EARTHEN citizens of Hungary in there millions, the lower class – who are BATTLING to survive through the EXPLOSION of Inflation in Hungary.
It continues, and will NOT fall, through the removal of capping, by Orban, but will see INFLATION increase in its DESTRUCTION within Hungarian society, especially those categorized as lower class.
Orban and his Government – they have DESTROYED the Hungarian economy, that see’s us, in a position, being led by a Government, that are in a position that could be called RUINATION – financially and economically.
The NADIR of its COLLAPSE – has yet to see the bottom, or DESTRUCTION it is going to cause in Hungary.
What gets WRONGFULLY dismissed in Hungary is the GROWING humongous problem in the structure of lifestyle in Hungary – is the MASSIVE cataclysmic problem, a human disaster under what is called and known as Social Inequality.
The RICH are getting RICHER and the POOR are getting POORER – in there MILLIONS.
WHAT are Hungarians doing about these FACTUAL occurrences/happenings in the population of Hungary ?
Do not for one minute due to the factual state of the Hungarian economy, the out of control position of Social Inequality, the VIBRANT and progressive rate of INFLATION in Hungary, that we could witness astounding numbers of civilians that could fall into that of a PEASANTRY category.
Its DIABOLICAL what’s occurring in the lower middle class and lower class of civilians – there lives, in Hungary, and what is needed of them, just to SURVIVE.
A socialist lecturing anyone about economic sagacity is quite simply hysterical. These people are experts at frittering away hardworking people’s money, with a track record of more than a century, the world over. There is not one single place in the world ruled by a socialist government that has prospered. Not one.
Pensions in Hungary do seem to be left behind in this massive inflation. At least the socialist are suggesting improvements. The right wing conservatives seem to be just fine about letting pensioners wither away with ever decreasing value of their pension – doing nothing about it.
And yes, there have been many countries ruled by socialist government and prospered, e.g. Nordic countries have had socialist governments and these countries are doing pretty well.
