Orban signs Modern Cities cooperation agreement with Szombathely
Budapest, November 17 (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orban signed a cooperation agreement with Tivadar Puskas, the mayor of Szombathely in western Hungary, under the government’s Modern Cities programme on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, the government will provide Szombathely with development funding totalling 5 billion forints (EUR 16m), the prime minister said after the talks.
“Szombathely is a well managed and politically stable city with a strong economy,” Orban said, adding that “all this is a sufficient guarantee for the government that the city will use the funds sensibly”.
Development projects for Szombathely will include a four-lane motorway providing a link to Koszeg, new housing for people taking up jobs in the city, as well as flood protection works and a new reservoir.
