Orbán stands up for Steve Bannon

Viktor Orbán has openly stood up for Steve Bannon, who has been sentenced to four months in prison and given a fine for ignoring a congressional subpoena, on Twitter.
Steve Bannon flouted demands for documents and testimony from the panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Lawmakers on the House Select Committee wanted to know why he said a day before the siege that “all hell is going to break loose tomorrow.”
Federal prosecutors were seeking what they described as a severe penalty: four months in jail and a fine of $200,000. In court papers earlier this week, they said Bannon pursued “a bad faith strategy of defiance and contempt”.
In Orbán tweet, the prime minister wrote that politics could sometimes be ugly.
Politics can get ugly. I am sorry to see the political witch-hunt against a true American patriot, and a good friend, Steve Bannon. Keep on fighting, Steve! The truth will prevail! https://t.co/ge1QehZqfQ

This means that the Hungarian Prime Minister supports the kind of behaviour that Bannon exhibited.
The Hungarian Prime Minister has been criticised by many for his open support for the Republican Party and Trump, and he has not changed his stance since. The Hungarian government of the day ought to maintain good relations with the current US administration, and interfering in US domestic affairs is not a good tactical move.
The Hungarian prime minister’s communication is particularly odd in that for the past 12 years he has always criticised anyone who has somehow interfered in Hungarian domestic politics from another country.
