Orbán and Trump had an urgent phone call: here’s what they talked about

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon, discussing several critical issues including the war’s status, peace prospects, global economic trends, tariffs’ impacts, and Central Europe’s energy supply, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

FM Szijjártó’s meeting with Lavrov

The phone conversation was mentioned by Szijjártó after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the UN General Assembly in New York. However, details about the specific discussion on Hungary’s energy supply were not disclosed, Telex wrote.

The dialogue’s significance comes after Trump stated on Tuesday that personally persuading Orbán might lead Hungary to stop purchasing Russian oil. Trump described Orbán as his friend and expressed intent to contact him, saying, “if I did, he might stop.”

Szijjártó: The energy issue is pragmatic, not political

Szijjártó emphasised on Wednesday that Hungary’s reliance on Russian energy is driven by geographical and physical necessities rather than ideology, stating:

  • Hungary’s energy security in Central Europe cannot be guaranteed without Russian energy sources, due to logistical and geographic realities.
  • Russia remains a reliable energy partner for Hungary.
  • The issue is pragmatic, not political.

Furthermore, Szijjártó highlighted Hungary’s continuous communication with the US government. He also stressed Hungary’s commitment to peace and the importance of swiftly achieving stability in the region. During the UN meetings, Lavrov reportedly consulted with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Szijjártó expressed hope that these talks would help avoid the worst outcomes, such as the outbreak of World War III.

  1. I’ll be honest, I don’t usually stick around one online casino for long, but Box24 Casino has me coming back again and again. This Australian casino surprised me with how smooth the experience is—loading is quick, and the games are colorful and entertaining. I had a blast trying pokies with crazy themes, and the live dealer section made me feel like I was sitting in a real-life casino lounge. It’s not just about the wins (though I won’t lie, hitting a jackpot is sweet!); it’s about the overall atmosphere that keeps me smiling.

  2. There is only one party that is avoiding anything resembling peace negotiations: Russia. Does not appear to bother our Politicians in any way. Just pretend it is someone elses fault. Nothing new.
