Ahhh … To Rule by Decree – isn´t power … addictive?
Feel like a King, issuing decrees, not having to deal with pesky parliamentary debate and questions, bestow upon yourself the power to quickly suspend laws at short notice. Lovely!
The only country in the EU where this deemed necessary, back-to-back-to- … , even with Fidesz´ supermajority.
We are truly incredibly special!
According to a Politico article by Lili Bayer, Hungary has been ruled by decree since March 30, 2020. The pandemic decree was still in effect when the war decree started. So, we’ve been ruled by decree for over 4 years. When will it end? I think it is reasonable to assume that it won’t end while Orban is our Prime Minister. That is sad, terribly sad, because Orban and Fidesz have had the opportunity to do so much for this country and instead have done so much to this country.
Meanwhile, I’ve been informed by even more of my young friends that they have left the country, tired of the political atmosphere and disappointed with their low salary. One will go to work in Spain and another in Austria. And me? I’ll continue to buy my groceries in Romania where my average VAT paid is 10.4 %. How do I know this? It’s listed on my sales receipts by the same LIDL market chain that has stores in Hungary……..where VAT is NOT listed on my receipts.
If the VAT was listed on grocery bills in Hungary the population most of which is likely ignorant of what they pay would have a red flag in front of their eyes against the government every single time they pay for groceries they can’t afford. Of course it is not displayed on grocery bills but you will find it on restaurant bills.
