Persecuted Christians commemorated in Budapest

Fidelitas, the youth arm of ruling Fidesz, held a torch-lit commemoration in downtown Budapest to express solidarity with persecuted Christians throughout the world on Friday evening.

Addressing the event, Azbej Tristan, the deputy state secretary for aiding persecuted Christians, noted that Hungary had been the first country to take up the cause on government level over a year ago.

Since then Hungary has sought out the most efficient ways of helping those in need.

Speaking at the commemoration attended by dozens of young people, Fidelitas leader László Böröcz called it “shocking” that Christians are still facing persecution in today’s civilised world.

Since 2000, about one million Christians have been killed in the world, and attending masses is still forbidden in 70 countries, he said.
