PHOTOS: Budapest downtown’s iconic mall building almost ready
The Corvin Department Store (Corvin Áruház) on Blaha Lujza Square is one of the most iconic malls in downtown Budapest. The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) said that the company would start paving the area around the footing of the building. But to do so, they need to dismantle the scaffolding. Therefore, we can see the renewed facade of the late mall. BKK shared some photos about the project, which you may check out below. The new building will look magnificent and rule the renewed Blaha Lujza Square.
As we wrote earlier, Budapest’s Blaha Lujza Square was renewed with the financial sources of the capital. The square was fundamentally redesigned and inaugurated after a long renewal process last December. Mayor Gergely Karácsony received a lot of criticism from his coalition partner, the Democratic Coalition (DK), for not utilising the political communication opportunity better to promote the leftist-lead capital and slam the government for not giving enough money to Budapest. Orbán’s Fidesz said that the renovation cost the big trees on the square, and now it will not function as one since the small trees planted there will not give enough shadow for the passers-by for several years. Therefore, they will not be able to use it, for example, during the hot summers.
Anyway, BKK said on Friday that they would dismantle the scaffolding to start paving the ground around the footing of the mall. Furthermore, they will do the spring jobs specified in their contract. For example, they will fine-tune the mushroom fountains and other water designs. The area concerned will be closed for the public due to safety reasons for three weeks, Blikk wrote.
BKK added that passengers would see the iconic mall of Blaha Lujza Square soon.
