PHOTOS: Historic tram ride in the heart of Budapest
On Saturday, the Budapest Transport Company (BKV) will offer a unique opportunity to travel back in time aboard three nostalgic tram lines.
The charming tram routes will depart at 9 AM from three different locations in the capital city: Puskás Ferenc Stadium, Újbuda Centre and Széll Kálmán Square. The trams will pass by several illustrious spots in Budapest, such as Hungária, Szépilona and Budafok, writes Turizmus.com
Nostalgia trams
First off, we have the Modernized UV (MUV) 3430, which was manufactured in 1993. It features two driver cabins, a heating system, glittering floors and tube lighting. Departing from Puskás Ferenc Station, the tram stops at Hungária, Szépilona and Budafok Stations before it returns to its starting point.
The second one is the FVV “Bengáli” 1233, named after the Bengal tiger. Built in 1961 by the Budapest Electric Tramway (FVV), it is known for its slow movement and roaring sound. It goes from Ăšjbuda Centre to SzĂ©ll Kálmán Square, only stopping at Budafok, Hungária and SzĂ©pilona Stations. Finally, we have two refurbished wooden-framed S-series trams, numbered 611 and 1820. These will travel from SzĂ©ll Kálmán Square to Puskás Ferenc Stadium, stopping at SzĂ©pilona, Budafok and Hungária along the way. During the ride, passengers can learn about the history of public transportation and the city’s rich cultural heritage. Only pre-registered passengers over the age of 16 will be allowed on the trams, with a total of 150 lucky riders selected to enjoy the four-hour journey. The MUV 3430 can accommodate up to 50 passengers, while the FVV “Bengáli” 1233 can carry 70 travellers. Each of the two S-series trams can seat up to 15 people as well. This special event celebrates Budapest’s 150th anniversary and promises to provide an unforgettable experience for those fortunate enough to participate.Source: Turizmus.hu
