PHOTOS: New Alien movie will be shot in Budapest

The production will begin this Thursday in Budapest, the 20th Century Studios revealed. The director will be Fede Álvarez, whose filmography includes Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe (2016), and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022). The main protagonist of the movie will be American actress Cailee Spaeny.

According to ign.com, the work will begin on 9 March in Budapest. 20th Century Studios even shared a brief synopsis revealing additional details of what the fans and others interested may expect from the new movie. The sequel does not have a title yet, but it will be the ninth one in the franchise that began in 1979.

The leading role went to Cailee Spaeny, known for FX science fiction thriller Devs (2020) and the HBO crime drama Mare of Easttown (2021). Furthermore, she portrayed the lead in the supernatural horror film The Craft: Legacy (2020). Here are some photos of her:

She will be joined by Industry’s David Jonsson, Shadow and Bone’s Archie Renaux, Rosaline’s Isabela Merced, The Batman’s Spike Fearn, and Away from Home’s Aileen Wu:

Here is the title

CineMarvellous stated in a recent post shared on Facebook that the new movie’s title will be Romulus. They added that it will be available, for example, on Hulu from 2024. Here is their post:

Anyway, 20th Century Studios disclosed that the movie would take place in a far-off world. Furthermore, it will focus on the adventures of a group of young people whose destiny is to cross paths with a horrifying threat.

“In this ninth entry in the immensely popular and enduring film series, a group of young people on a distant world find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe”, the official synopsis reads. According to ign.com, the director of the original Alien, Ridley Scott, will be the producer now with Michael Pruss. Executive producers will be Brett O’Connor, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Tom Moran.

The last movie in the franchise was Alien: Covenant back in 2017. The franchise is in the ownership of Disney. As a result, it is not surprising that they will try to acquire as much money as possible from it. Winteriscoming.net wrote that the work on an Alien prequel series directed by Noah Hawley would also start in 2023. It will debut in 2024 and take place on Earth in the late 21st century.

    I really hope that photo at top of a person in a lame Alien costume coming through the ceiling vent is not from the upcoming film.

    If you’re touring Switzerland and passing the Gruyere region (of cheese fame)… There’s a bar / restaurant with Alien film set pieces and a museum featuring a lot of Alien stuff in the quaint city of Gruyeres – recommended!
