PM Orbán sacked important military leader unexpectedly
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has relieved Lieutenant General János Béres of his duties as the director general of the Military National Security Service (KNBSZ), the defence ministry said.
Béres will leave the post on Nov 5, ministry said on Monday. Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky thanked Béres for his service, and proposed General Norbert Tajti for the post, the statement said.
Telex said that Mr Béres served in Romania, Iraq, the USA and China. Between 2008 and 2012 he had a military diplomatic mission in China. Afterwards, he became the deputy intelligence director of the KNBSZ. Later, he became deputy director. He served as the director of the institution between 2018 and 2023.
