Poland’s Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday.

A man in the western town of Zielona Gora tested positive for the novel coronavirus, said Szumowski, adding that the patient has been hospitalized and is in good condition.
All those who had contact with the patient have been quarantined, the minister said, without elaborating.

Over 200 students and teachers from a school in the town of Police in northwestern Poland were quarantined on Tuesday, after two girls, who had spent their winter vacation in Italy, showed symptoms of possible coronavirus infection.

Poland has ramped up measures to counter any possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the country, including opening a 24-hour hotline, conducting additional health checks at entry points and passing an emergency health bill.

As we wrote yesterday, Ukraine has confirmed its first coronavirus case in a man who recently traveled to Italy, local media reported on Tuesday.
