Poll: Fidesz lost over a million voters in the last three months
Budapest (MTI) – Support for the governing Fidesz party continued to slide at the start of the year, this time to a smaller extent than recent falls, while backing for the opposition parties remained largely unchanged, pollster Ipsos said on Tuesday.
After the 10 percentage point drop in the last two months of 2014, Fidesz lost a further two points to capture the support of 23 percent of the electorate, the pollster said, adding that Fidesz’s base has shrunk by one million voters in the past quarter. This means the party enjoys the backing of 1.8-1.9 million people.
The radical nationalist Jobbik party continued to be the most popular opposition party with 14 percent of the whole electorate, followed by the Socialist Party with 11 percent. Green party LMP and leftist grouping Democratic Coalition (DK) each notched up 3 percent in Ipsos’s survey, while Egyutt (Together) and Dialogue for Hungary (PM) had 1 percent each.
The camp of the electorate declaring an intention not to vote expanded to 41 percent, or 3.3 million voters, the pollster added.
Fidesz captured 44 percent of core party supporters while Jobbik attracted 24 percent. The Socialists had 19 percent, LMP 6 percent, DK 3 percent and the others 1 percent each.
