Procession with Magic Steeds, a Prelude to the National Gallop
“Magic steeds” marched up the newly renovated Rákóczi Street in Kecskemét to greet the Hírös Gallop.
The Gallop started with a procession with “magic steeds”. Hussars, legendary Hungarian cavalrymen, took the lead. All the participants marched up the recently renovated Rákóczi Street before the spectacular event.
“Hírös” means famous in the local dialect. The epithet is primarily associated with Sándor PETŐFI’s poem about the famous city of Kecskemét.
The Hírös Gallop is a preliminary round of the National Gallop Competition to be held in Heroes’ Square on 19 – 21 September, 2014.
According to the organisers of the race, the Gallop is a tribute to Hungarian equestrian traditions, a horse race that evokes our rich cultural history as well as the atmosphere of it.
Hungary is strongly associated with horses and riding. What is more important is that this equestrian culture is very much alive and that everyone can be a part of it in events like this.
The clatter of hooves is so strong in a race that it rather feels like your heart-beat: unforgettable.
