Public media to raise funds for the visually impaired

Funds raised by the Hungarian public media’s Good to be good campaign this year will go to the Hungarian Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (MVGYOSZ), participants announced in an event marking World Sight Day, on Saturday.

Dániel Papp, the chief executive of Hungary’s public media provider MTVA, said the media offered a wide variety of programmes connected to the campaign, while “many of its partners send donations, including ones across the borders”. He called the campaign a “trigger of charity”.

MVGYOSZ head Sándor Nagy said donations were welcome by dialing the phone number 13600, extension 96. The funds received will go towards improving conditions for the visually impaired, he added.

Beatrix Siklósi, the programme’s project manager, said a donation of 500 forints could be contributed through calling the hotline, while non-financial contributions and enquiries could be made at [email protected]. She welcomed that “many artists and sports people needn’t even contacted, they volunteer their support” and encouraged even more businesses and institutions to follow suit.

“While money matters, it is not all,” Siklósi said, and pointed to the importance of spreading information. The public media’s duty is to call attention to social problems, she added.
