Public services workers’ union announces strike
The union of public service workers (MKKSZ) will call a strike for July 17 unless an agreement is reached with the government on a wage increase, representatives of the union said.
Out of the sector’s 610,000 state employees, about 200,000 have not received a pay rise in the past 8-10 years, the president of the Hungarian Civil Servants, Public Employees and Public Service Workers’ Union told a press conference.
The union demands gradually topping the base salary of public service employees who have not been included in this year’s central wage increase scheme over the next three years to a final 50 percent, Erzsébet Boros said.
The 2017 increase this year should be an equivalent of the rate at which minimum wages have been increased this year, she said.
