Budapest Airport has been preparing for weeks for the smooth visit of Pope Francis, together with the authorities, the Airport’s official Facebook page wrote.
Budapest Airport would like to inform passengers that during the Pope’s stay, especially on the days of his arrival and departure, i.e. in the morning of 28 April and the afternoon of 30 April, there will be temporary traffic restrictions in the vicinity of the airport, which may lead to congestion. In order to reach your flight safely, the airport operator asks passengers to calculate with at least one hour of extra travel time when accessing the airport at the following times:
• 28 April, between 07:00-11:00 and
• 30 April, between 16:00-20:00.
Even the Budapest Airport shuttle bus is affected
Bus line 200E of the Center for Budapest Transport will operate on a modified route on 28 April between 6:00-12:00 noon and on 30 April between 12:00-20:00. During these periods, buses to the airport will not stop at the BUD Cargo City and the International Postal Exchange Center, and buses to the city center will not stop at the Aircraft Museum. The observation terrace at Terminal 2 will be closed from 6:00 to 12:00 noon on 28 April and from 12:00 noon to 20:00 on 30 April. The Pope’s visit will not have a significant impact on passenger processes within the airport.
The Pope will arrive with a flight of the Italian airline ITA Airways and on the board of a brand new Airbus 320Neo. The captain will be Massimiliano Marselli (having 18 thousand of flying hours), who will be helped by three co-pilots and six flight attendants, airportal.hu wrote.
