Hungarian firm to supply Slovenian railways with new Intercity trains

Magyar Vagon has clinched a exciting contract to manufacture railway trainsets for Slovenia’s national rail operator, sealing the deal in Ljubljana on Monday – the company announced to MTI the same day.

New trains in Slovenia to hit the tracks in 2028

The tender calls for delivering five Intercity trainsets to the neighbouring country, with each one comprising four carriages. Following the agreement, they’ve committed to a two-year warranty and a steady supply of spare parts guaranteeing 95% availability throughout the warranty period. These sleek new trainsets are set to hit the tracks in the second half of 2028.

The EU public procurement tender was issued by the Slovenian rail operator’s passenger transport division. Magyar Vagon stood out in the competition by tailoring their bid to the precise technical specs and the client’s needs. CEO László Ludvig calls this win a game-changer, as it’s the first time their homegrown IC+ carriages will roll out to foreign markets. They’ve previously built 92 similar ones for Hungary’s MÁV, but these Slovenian versions feature custom equipment and interior designs.
