Suzuki Swift cars and similar models top the list of fastest-selling used cars in Hungary

Change language:
The Hungarian used car market remains strong in 2025, with certain models finding new owners in record time. According to the latest turnover analysis, some vehicles disappear from listings within just a few weeks, underlining how price sensitivity and brand perception drive sales. One thing is certain: Suzuki Swift cars are always winners in Hungary.
A growing but ageing car fleet in Hungary
The backdrop to these trends is a steadily expanding but ageing national vehicle fleet. Figures from Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) show that the number of registered passenger cars grew from 2.83 million in 2004 to over 4.26 million by the end of 2024 — a 50% increase.
However, the average age of vehicles on Hungarian roads also rose significantly, from 10.9 years in 2004 to 16.2 years in 2024. This ageing trend explains why demand for affordable, simple, and easily serviceable cars — such as Suzuki Swift cars — remains so strong.
Suzuki Swift cars sell in just 18 days
According to Helló Magyar, Suzuki cars dominate Hungary’s fast-selling used car charts. The Suzuki Ignis leads the ranking with an average of only 14.9 days before sale, followed closely by the Wagon R+ (15.5 days) and the SX4 (16.6 days). Not far behind, Suzuki Swift cars typically find buyers in just 18 days, securing a top-four position. Rounding out the top five is the Peugeot 307, which changes hands in just over 18 days on average.
Industry experts highlight that Suzuki’s popularity is no accident. Affordable maintenance, a nationwide service network, and straightforward mechanics make the brand particularly attractive to cost-conscious Hungarian buyers. The Swift, in particular, combines practicality with reliability, helping it retain strong demand even as the overall vehicle fleet ages.

Older cars sell faster than newer ones
Interestingly, the fastest-selling vehicles are not recent models but rather older ones. Data shows that passenger cars older than 15 years are sold in an average of 21.9 days, compared to 25.9 days for 10–14-year-old vehicles and 27.5 days for those aged 5–9 years. The slowest to move are 0–4-year-old cars, which take about 42.5 days — twice as long as the oldest category.
The explanation lies largely in pricing: older cars are cheaper to purchase and maintain, giving them an advantage in a market where affordability is the decisive factor.
Petrol and diesel still dominate
Turnover statistics by drivetrain show that petrol-powered cars remain the easiest to sell, averaging 25.9 days, just ahead of diesel models at 26.4 days. Electric vehicles require about 33.3 days to find a buyer, while hybrids take even longer, at 35.4 days.
