Romantic places for Valentine’s Day date in Budapest

14th of February is the day of romantic love, romance and couples. If you happen to be in Budapest, on this lovely day, then you will be overwhelmed with romantic buildings and lovely places to walk around. Budapest has a lot of these! In case you are planning to spend your Valentine’s day’s date in the city of Budapest, we highly recommend these options.

Vajdahunyad Castle

Vajdahunyad castle is located in the second biggest public park of Budapest, City Park or Városliget. It can be found easily, next to Heroes’ Square, at the end of M1 metro station. Outside, the castle is surrounded by a small lake and some trees, the looks of Vajdahunyad Castle is also fabulous. The castle seems to be Schwarzenegger’s favourite Hungarian place., as it was reported not too long ago. This environment and the mixed architectural style of the castle makes you feel like in a fairy tale with your loved one. Both at night or in the afternoon, the Castle is a very romantic spot for your date.

The top of the Basilica

Saint Stephen’s Basilica is home of Roman Catholic masses, concerts, but even weddings and thousands of Instagram photos. Being located on St. Stephen’s Square, on the Pest side, near fancy restaurants, pedestrian streets and cafés, the Basilica makes a wonderful place for a date. But not only the surroundings but also the inside of the church makes you feel amazed. What would top up your date around the Basilica is definitely to see the whole city from the top. It worths climbing the 96-meter building’s balcony to watch over whole Budapest.

Fisherman’s Bastion

The neo-Gothique Fisherman’s Bastion is located next to Matthias Church and not far from the Buda Castle. It is a terrace that has seven towers and a wonderful panorama to the Pest side, Danube, Margaret Island and Gellért Hill. Its white walls, narrow corridors and beautiful view on the whole city makes a perfect Valentin’s Day date

Kopaszi dam

The newly built dam and bay next to Lágymányosi bridge is also a spot, where you can walk around a lot and be romantic. Even in the winter, some restaurants are open all year, but some of them are opened in spring and summer only. People often sit down on benches next to the bay and enjoy each other’s company, or anyone can have a nice walk around or sit in a restaurant. 🙂

The ‘Bottomless’ Lake

Walking around probably the most romantic lakes of Budapest, you can realise how close the city is to nature. Hundreds of years ago, there was mud and marsh at the current place of the Bottomless Lake (in Hungarian: Feneketlen tó), which has some fairy-tale-like legends, too. Now, it is full of romantic harmony, city and nature. The reed around the lake and a middle school and a playground is a peaceful place as a whole. The location of the lake is on the Buda side at Kosztolányi Dezső Square.
