MAP shows most burglary-ridden Budapest districts, Hungarian towns

Change language:
The number of burglaries regularly increases during the summer, even though sometimes even a bar on the window would be enough to ward off the illegal intruders. To call citizens’ attention to the rampant issue, the Hungarian police shared a map showing the most burglary-ridden Budapest districts and Hungarian towns. And it lists some surprising places.
According to novekedes.hu, the Hungarian National Bank’s news outlet, burglars tend to be quite shrewd. For example, police caught a gang of four following luxury cars. They tracked down the address of the owners by using illegal methods and robbed their houses when they were away. Before authorities arrested them, they stole more than HUF 34 million (EUR 88,740) from 16 properties. Among other high-value items, they took foreign currency, expensive watches, jewellery and designer handbags.

Based on the data of the Budapest police, the number of registered burglaries reached 402 in the first half of 2023. In H1 2022, that number was 444. However, those numbers only inform us about the solved cases. They do not indicate the time of the crime but only the date of registration. The number of Budapest cases rises way above the national average.
