Hungary’s MOL explores geothermal power in bold sustainability move

Hungarian oil and gas company MOL is conducting seismic surveys at its Danube Refinery in Százhalombatta, south of the capital, with the aim of using geothermal energy at the site.

In a statement issued on Friday, MOL said the survey results would be ready in about six months, after which feasibility studies could be conducted. MOL added that the project was a first for the region and followed the establishment of a solar park and green hydrogen plant at the refinery.

MOL circular economy services director leaves position

Zsolt Pethő, Circular Economy Services Director of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL, left his position and the group and was replaced by MOL Group CFO József Simola from 15 August.

Pethő played a key role in launching and strengthening MOL’s circular economy services business, MOL said. Simola will continue implementing the organisation-building and efficiency-boosting tasks in the business. His position as Group CFO will be taken over by Ákos Székely, currently Senior Vice President of Group Planning and Reporting, it added.
