Russia has reported 6,198 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, its second highest daily increase, raising the total number to 87,147 as of Monday, official data showed.

The death toll from the disease has risen by 50 to 794, while 7,346 people have recovered, including 579 in the last 24 hours, Russia’s coronavirus response center said in a statement.

Moscow, the country’s worst-hit region, has confirmed 2,871 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking its total to 45,351.

The Moscow-to-nation ratio has been declining, indicating that smaller cities in the country are now facing rising risks.

As of Sunday, 183,577 people were under medical observation across the country, Russia’s consumer rights and human well-being watchdog said in a statement on Monday.

All citizens, except those working for essential institutions and establishments, are on paid leave from March 30 till April 30 as part of the country’s efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

People are only allowed to go out to receive medical care, travel to work, shop at the nearest store or pharmacy, or walk a pet.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will address the nation this week on the pandemic for the third time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday, without specifying whether the self-isolation regime Putin announced in his first address on March 25 will be extended.
