Saudi Arabia’s Flag Day celebrated with helicopter flyover in Budapest – videos

Today marks Saudi Arabia’s Flag Day, celebrating one of the Kingdom’s most important national symbols. In honour of the occasion, the Saudi Embassy in Budapest took a unique approach to the commemoration: a helicopter repeatedly flew over the Danube River carrying a massive Saudi flag.
Flag Day is traditionally celebrated throughout Saudi Arabia, with the green flag featuring white Arabic inscriptions receiving special attention. In addition to official events in the Kingdom, Saudi embassies and consulates worldwide commemorate the day to express national unity and raise awareness of Saudi Arabia’s history and culture.
The Budapest flyover was an unusual yet striking tribute. The helicopter passed over the city’s iconic river, allowing pedestrians along the Danube or on its bridges to admire the large flag. The event was aimed at Saudi nationals and also provided a unique experience for the Hungarian public, drawing attention to the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Saudi Arabia’s Flag Day highlights the significance of national pride and unity, as well as the importance of preserving traditions. With this creative tribute, the Saudi Embassy in Budapest ensured that this special day was memorable for all.
“On Saudi Flag Day, 11 March, we celebrate our flag as a symbol of our national unity and global standing, reflecting on the values of peace and justice that our green banner, the ‘flag of peace,’ represents. The flag embodies peace, justice, and pride, reflecting the Kingdom’s identity and its noble message to the world,” said Majed Abdulaziz M. Al Abdan, the Saudi ambassador to Budapest.
“On this day, we pay tribute to the importance of the national flag, which has held deep significance in the history of the Saudi state since its founding in 1727. The centre of the flag bears the Islamic creed (Shahada), symbolising peace and the message of Islam, upon which this blessed nation was established. The sword represents strength, pride, wisdom, and high stature,” the ambassador emphasised to Daily News Hungary.
