Second BKV bus catches fire in Budapest within 24 hours – UPDATE: Another one!

Another BKV bus caught fire Thursday morning in Budapest’s 12th District, between Érdi Street and Süveg Street, near the Farkasréti Cemetery and the Süveg Street bus stops. This marks the second bus fire within 24 hours, following a similar incident on Wednesday near József Nádor Square.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames using two water jets, and authorities closed the affected stretch of road during the operation. According to BKK Info, Érdi Street has been closed at Süveg Street, and the route of bus 8E has been altered. The bus is currently bypassing stops between BAH Interchange and Eper Street, as reported by Telex.

In the meantime, a replacement bus is running between Farkasréti Cemetery and the BAH Interchange. The 59 tram replacement bus is also taking a detour and will skip the Márton Áron Square and Süveg Street stops.

The last case was in 2022, now two in under 24 hours

Wednesday’s fire occurred in downtown Budapest and originated in the engine compartment, eventually spreading to the facade of an unoccupied building. Fortunately, all passengers got off the bus in time, and no injuries were reported. No injuries were reported in Thursday’s incident either.
