Senegal reaffirms its support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara
The Republic of Senegal renewed on Monday its unequivocal support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its sovereignty over all of its national territory, including the Sahara region, according to the MAP agency.
This position was formalized in the joint communiqué issued at the end of the Moroccan-Senegalese Cooperation Commission, which met in Rabat under the co-chairmanship of the Head of the Moroccan Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and the Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko.
In this document, the Senegalese party reiterated its total support for the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, which it considers to be “the only credible, serious and realistic solution” to resolve this regional dispute within the exclusive framework of the United Nations.
Senegal also welcomed the historic adoption on 31 October 2025 of resolution 2797 by the United Nations Security Council. This resolution enshrines the Moroccan autonomy plan, within the framework of the sovereignty of the Kingdom, as the only serious, credible and lasting basis to achieve a final political solution.
