Several Hungarian expressways to become toll roads in 2024!

Change language:
This will be the last week when we can use several road sections and expressways in Hungary free of charge.
According to telex.hu, Útinform drew attention to the fact that several Hungarian expressways would no longer be free from 1 January, next Monday. The sections affected by the change are the following ones:
- M0, Budapest’s bypass motorway. The southern section of it was free before,
- M4, leading to Budapest Airport, except for its Budapest section,
- the entire section of M44 connecting Békéscsaba and Kecskemét,
- M30, Miskolc’s bypass motorway,
- M31, connecting Budapest with Gödöllő,
- M76 motorway between Balatonszentgyörgy and Fenékpuszta.
That means the only free expressways in 2024 in Hungary will be the following ones:
- M8: it will connect Abony with Balatonfőkajár, but only 8 km of it is ready.
- M9: it is a planned southern ring road connecting the Western parts of Hungary (starting from Nagycenk) with Szeged in Southeast Hungary. However, only 20.6 km of it is ready around Kaposvár. The planned length is cca 330 km.
- M80: the expressway connects Körmend with Szentgotthárd, two towns near the Austrian border in West Hungary. Its length is 28.85 km.
- M60: 32 km of the motorway is ready. In the future, it will connect Pécs with Bóly, where it will be attached to motorway M6. However, only a short, 2-km-long section remains free, between Pécs-West and Pécs.

There is another section of the M9 that is completed just north of Baja, connecting road 51 with the M6. It is also free.
I wonder if a foreign group will be collecting the money. It has happened in the past. Selling the rights to some eastern country for instance.
