Students make 106,000 applications to colleges, universities in Hungary
Budapest, March 30 (MTI) – Around 106,000 students have applied to colleges and universities in 2017, state secretary of education László Palkovics told a press briefing on Thursday.
This number is in the range of statistics from 2014, 2015 and 2016, when the number of students was between 105,000 and 111,000, he said.
Fully 91 percent of applicants lodged requests for state funding, which broadly equates to the proportion normal in recent years.
Economics is most popular among students, followed by teacher training, technical studies, medicine and IT, Palkovics said.
Most students applied to Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Budapest, with the University of Debrecen in second and Szeged University in third place.
Altogether 24 higher-education institutions will offer dual vocational courses in cooperation with 625 companies, which will contribute to practical training.
Zoltán Gloviczky, head of the Education Office, said that admission thresholds are likely to be announced on July 12.
