Unsettled weather will usher in the start of the meteorological summer, with showers and thunderstorms expected across much of the country in several waves during the first week of June. Winds will be brisk in many areas, at times strengthening considerably, while daytime temperatures are set to remain generally below 30°C, according to the latest forecast from HungaroMet, released to MTI on Sunday.
Weather change
Monday, the first day of meteorological summer, will begin with a temporary reduction in cloud cover before more vigorous cloud formation develops, limiting sunshine to only a few hours in most places. Showers and thunderstorms are likely in many regions, with torrential downpours possible in the east. Winds from the west and north-west will be lively, strengthening in the north-west, while remaining mostly moderate in the east and north-east. Gusts may intensify in the vicinity of thunderstorms. Daytime highs will range between 21°C and 28°C, with the warmest conditions on the Great Plain, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.
By Tuesday morning, skies will be largely clear across the western two-thirds of the country, while the east will remain cloudier, with lingering showers and thunderstorms gradually easing during the day. Cloud cover will diminish in the east as well, giving way to increasing sunshine accompanied by high and cumulus clouds. Isolated showers may still occur in the west. Winds will generally be light. Temperatures are expected to range from 10°C to 17°C at dawn, rising to between 23°C and 29°C in the afternoon.

What we expect in the second half of the week
On Wednesday, clouds will thicken markedly from the west, bringing a growing likelihood of rain, showers and thunderstorms across an increasing area. Southerly winds will freshen widely and may become strong in places, turning north-westerly particularly over Transdanubia. Thunderstorms may also be accompanied by strong to gale-force gusts. Morning lows will lie between 11C and 17C, with daytime highs reaching 16C to 24C in Transdanubia and 23C to 30C in the east.
Thursday will see decreasing cloud from the west, with prolonged sunshine in Transdanubia and somewhat less further east. Rain, showers and thunderstorms may persist in the north-east and east, though becoming more scattered as the day progresses. North-westerly winds in Transdanubia and south-westerlies in the east may be accompanied by brisk gusts. Temperatures will range from 12°C to 17°C at dawn and 21°C to 28°C by afternoon.
Friday will bring variable cloud with spells of sunshine, though scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible. Southerly winds will be brisk, with stronger gusts around thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to fall between 10°C and 16°C overnight, rising to 24°C to 29°C during the day.
