Szijjarto dismisses Dutch criticism of Hungary’s treatment of migrants
Budapest, September 17 (MTI) – Critical remarks by the Dutch foreign minister raise the question what the Dutch police would have done if they had been attacked by aggressive migrants throwing stones and concrete slabs, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Thursday.
Szijjarto responded to Bert Koenders, his Dutch counterpart, who had suggested in an interview that using police violence against illegal migrants was not a solution that could be used in a common European approach to resolve the crisis.
Using tear gas or building a fence is not the spirit migrants should be received in, the Dutch minister said, referring to a violent clash between Hungarian police and illegal migrants at Hungary’s southern border on Wednesday.
In response, Szijjarto quoted a Hungarian saying and said “give as good as you get”.
