A top 50 Hungarian criminal was caught in Florida, a British man in Budapest
A Hungarian man wanted for several years and on the police top 50 list has been arrested in the United States, and a British man wanted on an international arrest warrant in Hungary, the National Investigation Bureau of the Hungarian Police Service (NNI) said on Police.hu.
Imre Ny. Roland Ny., 46, from Békéscsaba, who was arrested in Sarasota, Florida, has been wanted since 2019. The Metropolitan Court of Budapest first issued a national arrest warrant for him in 2020, a European arrest warrant in 2020 and an international arrest warrant in 2021. The statement did not say what the man had done.
After it was suspected that he was hiding in the United States, NNI targeting investigators contacted US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The extradition of the man, who was arrested on 21 July, will be decided by a US court at a later date, police said.
A day later, a 36-year-old British man was arrested and the UK issued an international wanted notice for him after he assaulted, strangled and robbed a prostitute in a London hotel in 2019. British authorities searched for the man for years before they received information that he might be in Hungary. UK counterparts, in cooperation with NNI detectives and the Hungarian Standby Police, arrested the man on 22 July in Budapest, in the VI district, police said.
Man charged with killing French national in Budapest
The Budapest Public Prosecutor’s Office has charged a man with US-British-Hungarian citizenship with stabbing a French national in February 2020 in Budapest.
According to the charges, the accused arrived in Budapest in December 2019, and on the night of February 7, 2020, he drank a large amount of alcohol in several pubs in Budapest.
In the small hours of Feb. 8, the accused ran up to a 25-year-old Frenchman walking on the pavement near Károlyi Gardens in central Budapest, hit him in the face twice, and stabbed him in the chest with a knife that he had on his person. The victim died on the spot.
The 28-year-old accused was charged with homicide.

“We are about to have a meltdown after 26 hours of waiting”, Wizz Air left Hungarians in London
European airports and passengers are still struggling with chaos, delays and cancellations. The heatwave in the United Kingdom causes serious problems. A couple of days ago, the runway of the London-Luton Airport “melted”. As a result, flights from Budapest to London and from London to Budapest were delayed. Many were even cancelled. Many Hungarians remained stuck in the United Kingdom, blaming Wizz Air for not getting any help. Below you can read what exactly happened and how the airline finally helped them.
A complaining passenger
One of the travellers shared his experience with utazomajom.com, a Hungarian travel website. He said that Wizz Air provided no help or information after all the flights were delayed. Other companies organised taxis and accommodation for their passengers, but Wizz Air did nothing. “You leave people without food and drink in the middle of the heatwave hitting England”, he complained in an email.
Even the police officers at Luton Airport could not track down Wizz Air’s employees. Furthermore, the next Wizz Air flight was scheduled to depart six days later.
Wizz Air did not help passengers find accommodation, taxi or new flight
The upset passenger wrote that they could have rebooked their ticket for GBP 350 instead of the original GBP 40. There was no accommodation within 10 kilometres of distance because other passengers were quick to storm to the nearby hotels and motels. The accommodation they found cost GBP 4-500/night. “We have been rotting here for 26 hours with no sleep in the past 40 hours”, he complained.
According to a Wizz Air statement published later, it was not their fault that their flight could not depart London-Luton. However, they helped their passengers to get home. They examined all possible options and reorganised their operation. As a result, a Wizz Air plane could take off in London on Wednesday afternoon. Consequently, the Hungarian passengers stuck in the British capital landed in Budapest at 5.20 pm.

Kevin Spacey drops out from Hungarian movie following sexual assault case
Shocking news arose regarding a Hungarian production. Kevin Spacey will no longer be leading the Genghis Khan movie following his sexual assault case in the U.K. Continue reading below for more details on the case.
Kevin Spacey will no longer be leading the Genghis Khan movie following his sexual assault case in the U.K., Variety reports. The actor was going to star in “1242: Gateway to the West,” a historical drama. The film was shopped at the Cannes film market. The movie is about a holy man in a Hungarian castle who attempts to stop one of Genghis Khan’s armies from invading Europe. Kevin Spacey was going to play the leading role.
Regarding the historical drama
Directed by Péter Soós, the English-language “Gateway to the West” has a budget of around USD 10,000,000 to USD 25,000,000. The shooting of the production starts this autumn. The National Film Institute Hungary, Foresight Media and LipSync are backing the project. It also stars Eric Roberts and Christopher Lambert.
The movie’s official description tells us the following: “When the Kingdom of Hungary’s army was annihilated by the Mongols at the Battle of Mohi, only the castle of Esztergom stood in their way to invade Europe. Batu, the grandson of Genghis Khan, reaches the walls of Esztergom with his invincible army. The castle’s defenders led by Eusebius, the canon of Esztergom, and a Spanish mercenary, captain Simon, are preparing for the final battle. The arrival of the papal legate, Cardinal Cesareani, the Mongol Lunar New Year’s celebration and the mystical approach of Eusebius, offer the defenders a small glimmer of hope.”
Lead replacement
The movie’s producer, Bill Chamberlain, tells the above source that they had replaced Spacey as its lead. This is after the former “House of Cards” actor was charged in the U.K. with four counts of sexual assault and one count of “causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.” Negotiations are currently underway with the new lead. The public will soon learn who will replace Spacey.
Multiple men have accused Spacey of sexual harassment and abuse, writes Collider. This includes the case of three anonymous men who accused the actor of sexual assault in the UK between 2005 and 2013. On Thursday, he appeared at the Old Bailey criminal court and pleaded not guilty to all five counts of sexual assault he is currently facing. He will stand trial in the U.K. on 6 June 2023. The trial is expected to last three to four weeks.

Foreign minister Szijjártó hails post-Brexit Hungary-UK cooperation
Hungary and the United Kingdom have laid the foundations of cooperation based on mutual respect following the UK’s exit from the European Union, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in London on Tuesday.
Europe is in a critical period, facing serious challenges, the foreign ministry cited Szijjártó as saying at the inauguration of the Hungarian consulate’s new building.
“We receive a lot of bad news and face many challenges each day,” Szijjártó said. “This situation makes friendships, predictable relationships and stable partnerships like that of the United Kingdom and Hungary all the more valuable.”
Szijjártó said that “in the spirit of mutual respect”, Hungary “was perhaps the only EU member state” that had not commented on or labelled the outcome of the Brexit referendum. “We didn’t compete with others in saying how bad a decision the British people had made,” he said. “We simply left it to the British people to decide on their own future.”
Turning to economic relations, Szijjártó said
British businesses made up the sixth-largest investor community in Hungary, with more than 800 companies employing some 55,000 people.
Many of them proved their loyalty during the pandemic by deciding to invest in their local bases rather than cut production, he added.
Bilateral trade turnover came to nearly 5 billion euros last year, “which it will likely reach this year”, Szijjártó said.
Hungary and the UK will also continue their cooperation in the area of nuclear energy with a view to ensuring that nuclear power is not discriminated against and determining the national energy mix remains a national competence, he said.
“The countries that can produce at least a large amount of the energy they consume are the ones that are truly secure,” Szijjártó said.
He said some 180,000-200,000 Hungarians live in the UK, adding that the Hungarian consulate had handled 23,000-27,000 cases in the last few years, which is three times as many as ten years ago.
Szijjártó also praised the organisation of the Hungarian general elections in London, noting that most of the Hungarian votes cast at foreign missions had been cast in the UK capital.
As we wrote earlier, Hungary’s Brexit adjustment reserve supports 63 companies with EUR 61.7m.
Currently Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world, says Hungarian minister
Data from human rights organisations show that 360 million Christians live in parts of the world where they are subjected to threats, discrimination or persecution, as against 245 million five years ago, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Tuesday.
He told a ministerial conference on the freedom of religion or belief in London that the Hungarian government considered support for Christian communities an important task which contributed to the freedom of religion, the ministry said.
He cited the Hungary Helps programme which had helped around half a million people return to or stay in their homelands and provided over 100 million dollars for building, revamping and operating schools, hospitals and churches.
He said in his address that Christianity was currently facing two main challenges: aggressive secularisation and massive persecution. “Unfortunately, currently Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world,” he added.
He said that Hungary had a thousand-year Christian heritage, which helped the country survive “the storms of history, occupation and all forms of dictatorship”. The fact that Hungary has been able to maintain its statehood has been due to a dedication to its Christian roots and heritage, he added.
Over the past ten years, some three thousand churches have been built in central European areas with ethnic Hungarian residents, the number of church-run schools has doubled in Hungary and the share of students attending such schools has grown from 10 percent to 20 percent, he said.
Wizz Air explained why they left passengers in France & UK without help
Wizz Air passengers wrote to Hungarian media outlets that they were left without proper help by the low-cost airline in Paris and London. People argued that Wizz Air did not acknowledge first that their flight was cancelled. Later they admitted that but offered no help for their passengers, who had to find accommodation, food, and drink in the French and British capital and rebook their flight. Some of them did not even speak the language. Here is Wizz Air’s explanation.
What happened?
As we reported yesterday, the Hungary-based low-cost airline, Wizz Air, left several passengers at the Paris-Orly airport without proper assistance. One of the victims wrote her story to Blikk. Orsolya stated that the most unpleasant thing was not the cancellation itself. It was the fact that she could neither rebook nor cancel the flight because she had already checked in, as Wizz Air only sent information messages about delays in the beginning.
Orsolya said that the company did not help them find accommodation for the night after it was clear their flight would not take off. Last weekend, a very similar case occurred. Wizz Air cancelled a flight commuting between London and Budapest but, allegedly, provided no proper help for the passengers.
The Hungarian low-cost airline sent a statement on the issue to Blikk, a Hungarian tabloid. In short, the company said
their delays were caused by the labour shortage the air traffic control struggled.
They added that they would refund their passengers and launch an investigation into yesterday’s Paris-Orly case.
Wizz Air’s explanation – labour shortage
They highlighted that they did everything to provide punctual service for their passengers. However, labour shortage hits hard not only the air traffic control but also the airports, the ground, baggage handling and security services. As a result, there are delays, which, due to the strict air safety rules, result in flight cancellations.
In the case of the Paris-Orly cancellation, that is what happened. Because of the air traffic control labour shortage, their flights suffered delays, and their colleagues could not fly back to Budapest before the airport’s closure. The statement clears that they notified their passengers via SMS and email about the delay.
They added that they have a partner company taking care of the people in case of cancellations. Wizz Air promised they would launch an investigation in the Paris-Orly case. If they found problems, they would act accordingly.
They offered alternative flights, refunding the ticket cost or crediting 120% of it on the passenger’s Wizz account. They added that they would try to process all requests in one week. Furthermore, passengers have the right to demand compensation on the company’s website, wizzair.com.
Systematic problem
Blikk says that the problem is more extended than just cancelling individual flights. EasyJet, for example, cancelled hundreds in May because of an IT problem. Lufthansa announced that they would do so with more than 2,000 flights because of the labour shortage at the Frankfurt and München airports. Thus, the problem is systematic.
Polish man murdering a Hungarian girl says demons possessed him
A Polish national brutally stabbed a young Hungarian girl to death last November in Bradford, North England. He first attacked Borbála Benkő (24) and then turned against her roommate. Borbála had no chance to survive, while Klaudia Rogozinka suffered life-threatening injuries. Zbigniew Soj, the perpetrator, said demons possessed him: that is why he committed the horrific deed.
According to RTL Híradó, the court gave Mr Soj a life sentence for murdering the young Hungarian girl. Furthermore, he received 14 years for attempting to kill her roommate. That means he will remain in jail for at least 45 years, szmo.hu summed up.
His victim, Borbála, taught children in Bradford, where she was sent by a Christian organisation. The attack happened after the man had watched a horror movie and drank alcohol.
The victims lived in separate flats in Sherborne Road, Great Horton, Bradford. Zbigniew Soj attacked the girls with two knives while they were asleep. First, he attacked Borbála and then turned to the other Hungarian girl, Klaudia. He injured her and tried to commit suicide afterwards. Police caught him on the spot, and he immediately confessed everything.
He said that he wanted to experience what it is like to kill somebody.
He added that demons possessed him.
At the court hearing on Friday, one of the police investigators said that the girls knew the man and trusted him. They could never imagine that he could commit such a horrific deed against them. The officer said it was a cruel and unexpected attack on the two defenceless girls.
Based on the statement of the West Yorkshire police conducting the investigation, the mother of the murdered girl said that Borbála would have had a bright future ahead of her. “She devoted her life to teaching children” Her dream was to start a school for special needs students in Hungary. “She will not be able to carry it out, but we will create a foundation,” she added.
“It will be named after her.”
The Hungarian girl is mourned by many in Hungary and Bradford. People commemorated her with flowers, photos, candles and masses.
Zbigniew Soj was featured in British magazines years before the Bradford horror because he walked 100 kilometres to draw attention to his unbearable tinnitus. The Polish man, who has several college degrees, can be released from prison 45 years later at the earliest.
The Telegraph & Argus wrote that Soj
“accepted there had been sexual contact during the killing.”
The British magazine added that Soj stabbed Borbála more than 40 times. Some of the blows were so harsh that she suffered bone damage. Afterwards, he entered the other girl’s unlocked flat and tried to strangle her. He also stabbed her nine times causing severe chest, shoulder and arm injuries.
He only stopped when the girl yelled at him in Polish that her family and friends needed her. Then he left the scene and Klaudia could finally call 999. However, the murderer returned shortly thereafter to tell her that he was suffering from depression and
was jealous of other people who were able to lead a normal life which he was not capable of anymore.
Ms Rogozinka has physically recovered from the horrors that happened to her but still suffers from a sleeping disorder and mental issues.
Hungarian team wins – England outraged?
Hungarian football team gained another amazing win this week against England. A British tabloid has started a “petition” to stop the English national team from playing against the Hungarians. Find out more about the above-mentioned, and what their national press had to say below.
Hungarians defeat England yet again
On Tuesday night, the Hungarian team won against the English national team, with no less than 4 goals scored by our team. The English team could not manage to score a single goal. England, silver medallists in the European Championship, have so far been very poor in the Nations League. Furthermore, the English press has been very vocal about their performance. The biggest newspapers in the country are not forgetting the great performance of the Hungarians.
A few weeks ago here in Hungary, the home team was able to win 1-0 against the English.
The BBC reports – “Hungary really beat England. It is the first time since 2014 that England has not won any of their four consecutive matches and it is worrying that their form and confidence are not back as the World Cup approaches. England was unable to do more than resign themselves to a humiliating and possibly devastating defeat, after which the fans not only booed but demanded the dismissal of Gareth Southgate. England must realise that Marco Rossi had built a versatile and hard-to-beat Hungarian team.”
“For the fourth time in eleven days, Southgate could not achieve victory. The Hungarians deservedly beat last summer’s European Championship finalists. England has not scored an action goal in four games and has not had such a long run in eight years.” – tells The Sun.
England’s “petition” against Hungarian team
It’s no wonder then that the British were scared, reports Blikk. They don’t seem to want to mince their words, at least one British tabloid, The Sun Football, has launched a “petition” in a post on Twitter to stop the English team from facing the Hungarian national team.
It’s a match that the English will certainly not forget for a while, but we will remember it forever. The Hungarian national team is getting stronger and playing better matches. In September, the Nations League will resume, where the team can show once again that Hungarian football did not end with the Golden Team.

Chaos: Wizz Air’s Budapest flight cancelled, hundreds stuck in London
One of the Hungarian media outlets received an angry email from a reader stating that a Wizz Air flight commuting between London and Budapest was cancelled. First, the Hungarian low-cost airline talked only about a possible delay. Later, they admitted that their flight would not take off. As a result, hundreds of passengers remained stuck in the British capital.
Some passengers do not speak English
According to index.hu, they have received an email today at dawn about the issue. The writing says that passengers waited more than four hours, and then Wizz Air cancelled their flight without explanation. The passenger said the Hungarian low-cost airline left them high and dry.
The company left almost 200 passengers in London, many of them having small children or Hungarians not speaking English. The disappointed passenger said that the rebooking website did not operate.
Later he wrote that Wizz Air sent him an email. Since the rebooking link did not function, he bought another ticket on the first Sunday morning flight from London to Budapest.
“I think there are many still at London-Gatwick, mostly those who do not speak English. I helped an elderly couple who have a relative in London, so they managed to buy a new ticket“,
the Hungarian man said.
Wizz Air apologized
Wizz Air apologized in an email. They wrote that they were committed to providing a seamless travel experience for their passengers. However, there are situations when unpredictable delays and cancellations happen, they added. Wizz Air highlighted that they had done everything to minimize the inconveniences. They wrote that they cancelled the 2222 LGW-BUD flight and listed the options for passengers. Among these was the ticket rebooking. But that subsite was out of order.
Provided that Wizz Air or airport crew could not help passengers with accommodation, transport, food or drinks, they should buy these and keep all the invoices. That is because Wizz Air will refund these costs later.
Another perspective
After Index published the first article, another reader wrote to them confirming the statements of the first one. He wrote that his wife and two underage children remained stuck at Gatwick airport. An airport employee popped up after their flight was cancelled and sent them out from the check-in. Afterwards, they received no further information. Wizz Air sent an email about the flight cancellation only hours later.
He bought new tickets, but they cost a lot more: 306 thousand HUF (EUR 765). Furthermore, they had to travel to Luton airport and buy sandwiches and drinks. Moreover, their car’s parking at Budapest Airport terminated at 4 AM, so they will have to pay a fine there. According to him, another Wizz Air plane arrived with a long delay in Milan, where the Italian tourists were outraged.

This is how Hungary knocked England out in Wolverhampton – VIDEOS
Roland Sallai scored twice as our men’s national team thrashed European Championship finalists England 4-0 in the Nations League in Wolverhampton on Tuesday night.
A scarcely believable result began to take shape in the 16th minute when Ádám Lang nodded down a deep cross and Sallai crashed a volley high inside England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s right post to hand the visitors an early lead.
Hungary dealt well with everything England threw at them for the next 54 minutes, their most dangerous moment coming nine minutes before half-time when goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz had to make an outstanding save from his own player Willi Orbán’s inadvertent header at goal.
Sallai then doubled his team’s advantage via a swift counter-attack, substitute Martin Ádám slipping the ball through to the Freiburg forward surging into England penalty are, who finished expertly first-time under Ramsdale with his right foot.
This was already the stuff of dreams for Marco Rossi’s side, but incredibly there was more, much more to come. Firstly, after England’s Harry Kane had hit the crossbar with a looping header, Ádám was first to fellow replacement Loic Nego’s deflected downward header and when he set up Zsolt Nagy for a shot, the Puskás Akadémia wingback unleashed a low, rasping drive which arrowed past Ramsdale and into the very left side of the England goal.
Two minutes later and a second yellow card for England defender John Stones left Hungary facing just ten men and in the 89th minute two of their substitutes took full advantage, Ádám Nagy releasing Dániel Gazdag with a sweet through pass which the latter pounced upon before dinking the ball left-footed past a befuddled Ramsdale and into the right corner of the England net.
That sealed a sensational 4-0 victory for Hungary, who inflicted
England’s worst home defeat in 94 years
upon them, eclipsing even the famous Magical Magyars’ 6-3 success in 1953 in terms of margin of victory. Indeed, that achievement by Ferenc Puskás’ Golden Team was Hungary’s only win away in England ever. Until now.

More good news soon arrived with the headline that Germany had defeated Italy 5-2 in the group’s other game, meaning that Hungary will look forward to September’s final two group-stage fixtures knowing that they top the group on seven points from four matches, one point ahead of Germany whom they face away on 23rd September and a further point clear of third-placed Italy, against whom they close this Nations League top-tier campaign on 26th September.
England 0-4 Hungary (HT 0-1)
Goalscorers: Sallai (16, 70), Zs. Nagy (80) Gazdag (89).
England: Ramsdale; James, Guéhi, Stones, Walker; Gallagher (Mount 56), Phillips, Bellingham (Foden 68); Saka (Maguire 85), Kane, Bowen (Sterling 46)
Hungary: Dibusz; Lang, Orbán, At. Szalai; Fiola, Schäfer, Styles (A Nagy 55), Zs Nagy; Szoboszlai (Gazdag 55), Sallai (Négo 78); Ad. Szalai (Ádám 68).

Historic victory: Hungary defeated England 4-0 in England! – PHOTOS
The Hungarian soccer team defeated the English national team in Wolverhampton, England. That is the first time a Hungarian team was able to defeat England on home soil after Puskás’s Golden Team in 1953 in the Match of the Century (3-6) in the Wembley, London.
Hungary defeated England in its fourth match in the 4th round of the UEFA Nations League. Marco Rossi’s team scored four goals: Roland Sallai in the 16th and the 70th minute, Zsolt Nagy in the 80th and Dániel Gazdag in the 89th minute. Meanwhile, England could not threaten Hungary’s goal.
The result means that Hungary leads its group in the UEFA Nations League with 7 points.
After Germany’s victory over Italy (5-2), the Nationalelf is in second place with 6 points. Italy is third with 5 points, while England stands in the last position with only 2 points.
Marco Rossi’s team defeated England in Budapest but suffered a defeat (2-1) in Cesena against Italy in a balanced match last week. Last Saturday, Hungary played 1-1 with Germany in Budapest.
The last time Hungary was able to defeat England on home soil was in 1953 when Puskás’s Golden Team defeated them 3-6 in the Wembley. However, now the goal difference is higher.
This is what Rossi said to the team after the German match
After the victory against England, Hungarians had another excellent performance in the Puskás Arena, this time against four-time World Cup winner Germany. Marco Rossi’s team took an eighth-minute lead through left wing-back Zsolt Nagy, only for the visitors to respond quickly. Thereafter though, it was Hungary who had any shots on target.
“The guys played very well, which wasn’t easy because the match sapped a lot of energy,”
Rossi commented after the final whistle. “We weren’t great in possession of the ball, but Italy played in a similar way against Germany. I’m happy with the result, but I wish we could have more possession of the ball because if the opponent has the ball, it can move our defence around a lot and well, we can have a very hard time. Germany played well, but we did well in stopping them from moving the ball between their defence and their midfielders, something which required a huge amount of work from the players involved.
I just want to congratulate the boys and the fans as well, because they were a great encouragement to the team yet again.
I’m happy with the boys’ performance and also that no opponent can be sure they’ll score against us. Years ago, the criticism of the team was that we couldn’t run, but now we’ve shown again that they can run and fight. That’s what I love about this team; they don’t give up and they fight all the way. Players, of course, need to keep evolving to compete with the biggest world stars in every match, so we need to get to that level but we’re on the right track.
We hope we can get a point from England too, and that will be our goal“.
Considering the result of this evening, we can say that the head coach was a bit pessimistic regarding the performance of the Hungarian team.
Homophobia, overcharge: embassy warnings for tourists visiting Hungary
As beautiful as the country is, there are too many unpleasant things to encounter here. Now that one can travel without most restrictions, Hungary is becoming flooded with tourists again. However, there are some things that Western governments warn their people about should they wish to travel to Hungary.
Warning list
And no, these “warning lists” do not only contain restaurants and bars that overcharge. Aside from COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, tourists travelling to Hungary do not have much to worry about. Nonetheless, there are a few things to be aware of, as we can learn from the websites of the American, Canadian, British and Australian foreign ministry.
According to these websites,
- public transport in Budapest is “perfect” and “cheap”;
- public safety is generally good, except for thieves and fraudsters who prey on tourists;
- public healthcare may be well below U.S. standards;
- it might be dangerous to drive on Hungarian roads;
- LGBTQI+ persons should think twice before coming to Hungary.
LQBTQI+ tourists
This last point is especially saddening. The website of the USA Bureau of Consular Affairs writes:
“Ethnic nationalist groups have gained popularity in Hungary in the past years advocating intolerance towards Jews, Roma, and LGBTI+ persons. Although these groups do not engage in violence and are not explicitly anti-United States, you should avoid public demonstrations and confrontations with their members.”
Public security
As rtl.hu writes, Western tourists may be reassured by the fact that public safety in Hungary is considered good enough. However, foreign ministries warn visitors that theft is common, especially in crowded places popular with tourists.
According to a warning on the website of the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, there have been many reports of thefts on trains, especially those between Vienna and Budapest, and at railway stations.
Dangerous places in Budapest
It was underscored that the Keleti Railway Station and its immediate surroundings are a particularly dangerous place in this respect. The warning shows that thieves targeting foreign tourists are especially keen on metro lines M1 and M3, tram lines 2, 4 and 6, and the bus line 7, as well as American fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
In addition, all the above-mentioned countries draw attention to overcharging in restaurants and bars, where unsuspecting customers are issued with huge bills and even forced to pay them. They also warn tourists never to ask taxi drivers to recommend bars and restaurants.
A recurring element is the warning that travellers should never accept drinks from strangers, as they may contain drugs.
Hungarian children booed England’s kneeling soccer team! – VIDEO
The Hungarian national football team played much better than England in places on Saturday evening. The question in everyone remains: why were there over 30.000 children cheering for the home team? Continue reading our article to find out more.
Last Saturday evening, the Hungarian soccer team beat their English rivals at the Puskás Arena. The English team were the European silver medalists, this is why their defeat is surprising. We can firmly say that their first day of the 2022-2023 Nations League is not off to a great start. To great outrage from the foreign team, the audience was not made up of adults. This time, it was children who cheered on the Hungarian team.
Why were there children in the Hungarian arena?
The European Football Association (UEFA) originally imposed three closed-gate penalties on the Hungarian national team. This is because last summer’s European Championship was attended by unruly Hungarian fans. The penalty was later reduced to two closed-gate matches and the second closed-gate match was then suspended for two years, writes Magyar Nemzet. This is the very reason why the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) had to play by the rules. They took the opportunity to invite children under the age of 14, free of charge.
The case is that the 30.000 children verbally expressed their disdain towards England while the foreign team took a knee.
Here is a video about what happened:

According to the BBC, this is a thought-provoking blind spot in UEFA’s regulations, as while the closed-gate penalty should have been a deterrent, instead the Hungarian team were allowed to play in a festive atmosphere.
English press coverage of Hungarian victory
While the Hungarian soccer players celebrate, the English have to face the harsh truth. Their performance was indeed so lacklustre that not even their press could console them. The “tired and mediocre” play of the English team could not prevent the Hungarian victory, Origó reports. Gareth Southgate could not see any encouraging signs in his team’s play. They were rarely able to cause any trouble in front of the Hungarian goal, while the home side played much more creatively and determinedly – writes the BBC.
They liken England to a “dead battery” which they have tried in vain to revive.
The Guardian compares the England team to toothless lions, and the paper agrees that England played one of the worst games in our history in Budapest. The Guardian says Zsolt Nagy sprawled “theatrically” before the penalty. The England team was compared to the children cheering from up above.
The England team were slow, ponderous – the foreign press adds.
Hungary defeats England in Nations League! – PHOTOS
Hungary defeated England in the UEFA Nations League in Budapest with Dominik Szoboszlai’s penalty. The final result was 1-0, so Hungary started the tournament with an unexpected victory. The last time Hungary could defeat England on a non-friendly match was in 1962. Congratulations to the national team!
According to infostart.hu, more than 30 thousand children cheered for the Hungarian team today in the Puskás Aréna, Budapest. Interestingly, the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) was hit with a five-match supporter ban because of racist abuse during last year’s European Championship. However, the MLSZ found a loophole in the UEFA rules allowing children under 14 to enter the stadium. That is what happened today in the Puskás Aréna and, surprisingly, the English national team was booed by the kids (and their parents) when they took the knee at the beginning of the match.
This was the first match for Hungary in the 3rd Nations League. In the 2018-2019 and 2021-2022 UEFA Nations League, the Hungarian team could not advance from its group.
The two teams:
- Hungary’s starting line-up: Gulácsi – Lang, W. Orbán, Szalai A. – Nego, Nagy Á., Schäfer, Nagy Zs. – Sallai R., Szoboszlai – Szalai Á.
- England’s starting line-up: Pickford – K. Walker, Maguire, Coady – Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Bellingham, Justin – Bowen, Kane, Mount.

On a yesterday press conference Hungary defender Ádám Lang spoke of, amongst other things, the national team having made progress in the recent past and the players wanting to maintain the organised, stable defence which now characterises the team, while also keeping the ball more.
“We want to prove we’ve evolved. Everyone is looking forward to the next match – it will be a serious challenge, but it’s good to play against such opponents!
We can test ourselves; I think that’s how everyone in the team thinks. I feel good and it’s always a pleasure to join up with the national team. The mood is good, but there’s not been any problem with this in the last few years, and this is essential for us to be able to perform well on the pitch in all four Nations League matches“, Lang concluded.
Mental Healthcare in Hungary vs UK: How is it Different?
Sponsored content
In this article, we discuss the differences between the UK and Hungary’s mental healthcare systems.
In 2022, mental health is rarely out of the headlines, with many celebrities and even members of the British Royal Family lending their voices to campaigns to increase awareness.
Having these conversations about mental health is fundamental to ending the stigma. But, it is ultimately down to governments to provide adequate treatment and support. With an increase in cases of psychiatric negligence across the globe, below we’re going to look at how mental healthcare differs in Hungary vs UK…
UK Mental Healthcare
Mental healthcare in the UK is primarily accessed through the National Health Service (NHS) and is free of charge. The first step is usually to visit a GP who will then be able to refer the patient to a mental health specialist. UK mental healthcare is broken down into three separate categories, and these are:
3 Categories of Mental Healthcare in the UK
Primary Care
This first point of call is when a patient who is experiencing mental health difficulties will contact their GP. The GP will usually speak with the patient to ascertain the type of mental health problem and then, having made an initial diagnosis, will usually refer the patient to the relevant professional. In some cases, however, a GP may be able to prescribe medication to the patient in a bid to control the symptoms.
Secondary Care
A patient may be referred to secondary care if the problem is outside of the GP’s expertise and, types of secondary care include:
- Community mental health teams
- Crisis resolution teams
- Home treatment teams
- Outreach and early intervention teams
- Hospital care
Tertiary Care
This third level of mental healthcare may be required if the patient is experiencing extreme mental health difficulties and needs expert specialised treatment. This kind of care will often involve a hospital stay and will include intensive and prolonged therapies.
What is Being Done to Improve Mental Healthcare in the UK?
Whilst UK healthcare services may look good on paper, dig a little deeper and it’s often a picture of negligence and underfunding. One of the most prevalent forms of mental illness in the UK is dementia, something which affects over 850,000 people every year and which is devastating to sufferers and their loved ones who are often tasked with their care.
Despite a pledge to raise funding for dementia care from £83 million to £160 million, the UK government instead cut funding to £75 million this year. With dementia services being constantly overwhelmed, many patients are cared for by a loved one who receives just £69.70 per week. This is an insulting amount when, often, these people have to give up work in order to care for somebody.
As well as conditions such as dementia, severe mental illness is an increasing problem in the UK. Around 0.9% of the UK population suffer from some form of severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, psychosis and bipolar affective disorder (also known as manic depression).
Underfunding means that many of these patients do not receive the care that they need, when they need it and, in extreme cases, this can lead to violence, self-harm and even suicide. As well as posing a danger to the sufferer and those around them, this puts increasing pressure on the police service who, in 2017, received 9000 calls from just five mental health patients.
Hungary Mental Healthcare
General healthcare in Hungary is provided and paid for through the Health Insurance Fund, which is an insurance-based funding. This means that Hungarian residents pay annual insurance in order to receive healthcare.
Shockingly, there is no legislation to govern mental health services in Hungary. In 2009, legislation was passed for The National Programme for Mental Health, however, this has yet to receive any financing from the Hungarian government.
The situation for mental health patients in Hungary was further harmed in 2006 when the Hungarian government reduced the number of beds on psychiatry wards. They also closed the largest in-patient mental health hospital, the National Psychiatry and Neurology Institute.
As well as a prevalence of mental health issues such as dementia and bipolar disorder, Hungary has the second highest EU rate of suicide, with extremely high rates of alcohol and drug addiction, which adds to the overall mental health situation in the country.
While there are some civil organisations which offer help to mental health patients, such as The Hungarian Alzheimer Society, a combination of a lack of legislation and, the fact that healthcare in Hungary is funded by insurance payments, means that the Hungarian landscape is bleak for mental health patients in Hungary.
UK Mental Healthcare vs Hungary Mental Healthcare
Whilst mental healthcare in the UK is by no means robust, there are systems and processes in place through which sufferers can get the help that they need. As we’ve mentioned, mental health services in the UK have suffered numerous blows to funding in recent years, with the government citing reasons such as the pandemic for funneling mental healthcare funds elsewhere.
Although the majority of people feel that the UK government falls woefully short when it comes to funding and provision of mental healthcare services, these services are available to all, free of charge and, there is legislation in place to ensure that funding is received by the organisations that need it.
There are two major problems when it comes to mental healthcare in Hungary. The first is that there is no central body in place to regulate, co-ordinate and ensure funding for mental healthcare services. This often means that patients either don’t have access to the care that they need or, simply don’t know where to look for it. The second problem is that of health insurance.
In Hungary, healthcare services are available to those who pay annual insurance premiums. Although most people pay these premiums in order to have access to care, many, people suffering from drug and alcohol addictions, will often fail to secure insurance. This, in turn, means that in too many cases, help is not available to the people who need it most.
Is the UK’s Mental Healthcare System Better?
Although it can be said that mental healthcare in the UK fails in many ways, it’s clear that the system, while flawed, is superior to that which is endured by patients in Hungary. Despite cutting funding to mental healthcare services this year by almost £10 million, the majority of patients do, eventually, receive mental healthcare services.
Unfortunately, the mental healthcare situation in Hungary means that a huge number of patients simply do not have access to the care that they so desperately need. This leads to a serious deterioration of conditions such as bipolar disorder which can usually be controlled relatively easily.
Whilst the 2009 National Programme for Mental Health offered some hope for those suffering mental illness in Hungary, funding for this essential programme is still proving to be elusive. Until the Hungarian government prioritises funding for mental health in the country, the fear is that the rates of severe mental illness, and suicide, will continue to rise; moving Hungary further and further away from the standards enjoyed by most EU countries.
