Orbán government on the tariff deal: the USA ate the EU for breakfast

The tariff agreement between the United States and the European Union is “good for the US, but bad for Europe”, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in a post on social media on Thursday, after details of the deal were announced.

“Donald Trump and the American government have won big, basically eating the negotiating delegation from Brussels for breakfast,” Szijjártó said. “Instead of the 2-3pc tariff European products were subject to until now, there will be a 15pc one, while American goods will be subject to a zero percent tariff, instead of the 10pc one till now,” he added.

He said Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission had “dealt another blow” to the European economy. Szijjártó said Hungary’s government aimed to shield the domestic economy from the impact of the “incompetence” of the European Commission and was in talks with strategic corporate partners on measures to protect local industry and workplaces.

  1. Last week epitomized the risible impotence and irrelevance of the EUros. If you look at the latter’s behavior in the White House, they were like little kids being given a talking-to by the principal.

Macaroni, Ursula, the German guy (does anyone even know his name?!?), the N.A.T.O. nonentity… – they are all total zeros, in every regard and by every measure.
