The 7 best menus for lunch in Budapest
Lunch is one of the most important dishes of the day. Be it a quick lunch in your break, a business meeting or a casual lunch, it is important that it tastes good and is of good quality.
These are seven of the best places to eat lunch in Budapest. The list was compiled by Gastroguide.blog.hu.
PICK Deli & Gourmet
PICK’s store on Kossuth tér is no ordinary meat shop. The store of the Hungarian brand, PICK, has reopened near the Parliament. Its new name is PICK Deli & Gourmet. If you are in a hurry in the morning to the office, we still recommend this place, as you can grab locally made salami sandwiches and fresh bakery products, as well as your daily dose of delicious coffee, here. But the main attraction is after 11 am when lunch is served; customers can choose between a two-course meal for 1,490 Ft (~ 5 €) or a three-course meal for 1,990 Ft (~6.5 €). The dishes are made by using quality PICK ingredients, and the service is fast, so you are guaranteed that this trip will fit into your lunch break. The store is open from 7 am to 5 pm and awaits customers with a modern, yet traditional atmosphere. If you are a big fan of salamis, sausages and other meat products, or you are curious about Hungarian dishes, we heartily recommend this place.
‘MOST’ Contemporary Bistro
In the city centre between Zichy Jenő and Ó streets, behind a giant claret coloured door lies the MOST Bistro. The interior harmony and the cosy atmosphere enchant you as you enter. MOST is a good choice if you want to have lunch on the cheap, but you still want to try out something more exciting and varied. The lunch menu is changing every day and you can eat everything on their menu card for the same price between 11:30 am to 4 pm. Did we mention that it is diverse? You can try many things, from Hungarian to Indian specialities. Oh, and there is more; their beverage selection is also very good, whether you want to drink wine, other alcoholic or soft drinks.
Japanika
Japanika might be one of the most interesting restaurants if not the most interesting one. What is unique in their lunch menu is the fact that you can vary what is inside. For only 2,590 Ft (~ 8 €) you get to choose your dishes for the three-course meal. The flavours are amazing as well. You can experience things during this meal that you cannot anywhere else. For the value that you get for your money, this restaurant is definitely among the top.
Sport Bistro
There are many good value menus out there in the city centre of Budapest, but this gem in the heart of Zugló was a huge surprise. Sport Bistro was opened last year on Szőnyi street. This is the BVSC football team’s restaurant, which is very popular in the area. The fashionable, modern and sporty atmosphere makes it a very nice place in itself. As it might be evident from the name, the restaurant emphasises the love of sports as well as the healthy lifestyle. This is not a coincidence as many Olympic, world and Europe champions visit the place on a daily basis. Evidence are some great sports relics that serve as a decoration for the restaurant, take for example the shoe of the world champion wrestler Balázs Kiss. The lunch menu changes every weekday, which you can check out on their Facebook page, or website if you wish. They use Hungarian ingredients and give you portions that could fill a man water polo player. The three-course meal is only 1,390 Ft (~ 4.7 €), which offers excellent value for the price, not to mention that parking is free.
Winestone Budapest
The weekly changing lunch menu offer of this place is very diverse because you can choose from the best Hungarian dishes throughout the week. They offer a two-course meal with soup and two possible second meals, which you can choose from. The portion is quite right, you will not be hungry afterwards, but the food coma will not hit you either, which makes this place great if you go back to work later. As their name suggests, they are fond of wine, so if you like the alcoholic nectar of the grapes, this place is definitely for you, because they have a huge selection.
Kiscsillag Restaurant
This establishment in the 3rd district of Budapest embodies the perfect family restaurant. People from the area do not only visit the place frequently in the weekend or for dinner, but they do so during noon. The lunch menu changes every other week and besides, there is also a section of pizzas. Thanks to the furnace in the restaurant, their pizza dough and bread are baked traditionally and locally. The dishes vivify the homely Hungarian flavours for the customers, so it might be a smart idea to reserve a table because the place is easily filled up with guests looking for that experience.
Spíler
The iconic restaurant of the Gozsdu Courtyard is now serving lunch menu for the weary office workers of the area, or anyone who comes by. The professionalism of Spíler is present in their lunch menu as well; for 1,640 Ft (~ 5.5 €) you get a high-quality two-course meal fast. Those who only have 30-40 minutes for lunch will be able to eat their meal here. This place offers a very good meal for a relatively low price and a waiter will serve you the food, ranking it among the best value lunch meals.
