The Hungarian government is living well while the people’s quality of life is the second-worst in the EU
Statistics reveal that Bulgaria is the only country in Europe where the quality of life is worse than in Hungary. The government’s consumption expenditure is far closer to the EU average than the average expenditure of one Hungarian household.
It turns out that only Bulgarians have a lower quality of life than Hungarians, Eurostat and Hvg report.

Back in 2014, Romania did worse than Hungary; however, it has been getting closer to the EU average each year. Now, they are doing way better than Hungary. Romania has put the development of its economy to top priority in recent years.
Hungary’s average GDP per capita is also quite far from the EU average. The situation is worse only in four other countries.
Hungary is the second furthest from the EU average in terms of one household’s average expenditures. On the other hand, the Hungarian government does not spare its spending. The government’s consumption expenditure is far closer to the EU average than the average expenditure of one Hungarian household. On paper, the government spends money to develop the living conditions of its population; build roads, hospitals, stadiums, etc. Ideally, all of these expenses serve the general public’s interests and make their lives better. However, many opposition parties argue that this is not the case in Hungary.
Hungary has the weakest healthcare system in the Central-European region
The government is often accused of spending public finances on developments that are not in the general public’s interests, and that they are only for show. The money often goes to the right pockets instead.
The average expenditure of a household in Hungary was 59% of the EU average in 2009, and it has been more or less stagnant ever since. In contrast, the government’s expenditure has been almost continuously increasing.

Hungary has money to operate hundreds of Embassies worldwide, however, their New York City Consulate is a terrible place with unqualified staff. Also it is no secret its run by a Stazi-trained spy.
