The Hungarian National American Football Team lost its first match
The Hungarian national American football team lost its first official match by 7-26 against the Czech Republic last Sunday. The preparation match was planned to be held in the BVSC Stadium but was transferred to the field of Építők due to heavy rain.
According to origo.hu, the match didn’t start out well despite the cheering crowd of 4500 people. The Czech quarterbacks did a safety after the first Hungarian offense which means that they levelled Márk Bencsik to the ground (0-2).
In the beginning of the second quarter the guests increased their start with a field goal (0-5), followed by a touchdown (0-12). Before the half-time, the score was 0-19, which meant a huge drawback for Lee Hlavka’s team.
Hungary started the third quarter with Márton Czirók’s lead who managed a touchdown after an offensive. This was the first touchdown in the history of American football in Hungary. We also lived with the chance of the extra point so the score was now 7-19. But the opponent team did the same thing and reached the finishing score of 7-26.
Nothing changed in the las quarter. Our next match is going to be on the 10th of October in Belgrade against the Serbian team in the qualification rounds of the European Championships, B category.
