Hungary is home to many who have changed the world for the better and become famous. Quite often, people do not even know that these outstanding people were Hungarians. Here are some fun facts about brilliant Hungarians who were celebrated all over the world.
Robert Capa
We have compiled a list of famous Hungarians HERE, now, let’s continue our list with Robert Capa. Capa was born in Budapest on the 22nd of October, 1913. After his secondary school studies, he moved around Europe, where he learned journalism for some time. He was invested in politics, and he also started growing an interest in photography while he was living in France. Capa became an icon and a pioneer in the art of photography as he captured unique war moments. He travelled the world and recorded the horrors of war. You can read more about him HERE. (He) lived a long life and suffered a lot in his short career on earth. Born poor, he died poor. He left us a chronicle of his incomparable life, and a visual testimony to the conviction that humanity can endure and sometimes even triumph over many things.
Ernő Rubik
Ernő Rubik was born in Budapest on the 13th of July in 1944. His father was an engineer, who inspired Rubik from an early age. He became an architect but he also studied sculpting and interior design. Rubik worked as a professor at a university in Budapest where he made models. He made the first Rubik’s cube out of wooden pieces, which later conquered the whole world. By 1980, the Rubik’s cube was on supermarket shelves all over the globe. He once said:
It’s like there’s a magnetic force between us. With my invention, I feel that I am not alone in the world, as many people like to solve problems at the same level as I do.
Tommy Ramone
Not many know, but Tommy Ramone, a member of the famous Ramones punk rock band, was Hungarian. Tamás Erdélyi was born in Budapest on the 29th of January 1949. He came from a Jewish family that emigrated to the US during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. He was passionate about music from a young age. After his secondary school studies, he started producing and then eventually making his music with the Ramones. According to legend, nobody wanted to play the drums, so he was “forced” to take the role of the drummer.
