The plans were presented by Mayor Laszlo Papp, Secretary of State for Transport Policy Laszlo Taso and the designers at today’s press conference.

The local public transport has been renewed, new trams, buses, trolleybuses are operating and the airport lives as well. Intermodal Community Transport Center will coordinate the public transport which will be the symbol of the modern European transport. The center integrates every transport branch and Petofi Square, which is located in front of it, will get a new loo, too. Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the support of the EU and the government is HUF 21 billion on May 18. The building is impressive, but not wasteful, it is characterized by functionality, attractiveness and efficiency – Mayor Laszlo Papp said. The development affects 115 thousand sq m. The current building of the train station remains, but its eastern wing will be demolished and the western one will be renewed. 8700 sq m of offices will be built for the center of the transport companies’ headquarters, the traffic management and the business units. The smart city center of Debrecen is also planned there. Below the square, a 12 thousand sq m bus station will be built. The urbanistic value of the main station is that traffic will be led the underground for a livable city.

The traffic will be removed from this neighborhood, the Main Road 4 will be led to the underground as well. The electric transport will remain above the earth. The park will also be renewed, there will be fountain, water playground, green areas, street furniture. The bombed buildings of Deak Ferenc Square, the tribunal and the synagogue, will be visualized on the square in their original form. The processing design of the application starts in 2016, constructions being in the second half of next year, and the main station will operate from 2018 and will be handed over in 2019, turizmusonline.hu wrote.

It is a symbolic station of the civil life in Hungary. According to Laszlo Taso, the development brings coordinated train and bus timetables, single passenger information and single tariff system. The project is implemented through the Integrated Operative Programme for Transport Development.
