This is probably why the police plane crashed into Lake Balaton in Hungary — VIDEO
A police helicopter crashed into Lake Balaton near Balatonszéplak on Thursday afternoon. There were no serious injuries though, the communication service of the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) announced on the police’s website.
As we reported earlier, the MD 500E police helicopter crashed during a training exercise. The two-man crew of the aircraft was rescued by a nearby vessel. There were no serious injuries in the accident and police are currently investigating the circumstances.
The crew of index.hu arrived at the scene late in the afternoon after the accident, and they recorded a video of the plane being recovered from the crash site.
Based on the footage, an expert believes that the problem was probably caused by the failure of the helicopter’s rear rotor. However, the exact cause will be determined by an official investigation.
According to sonline.hu, police officers recently practiced jumping into the water from a helicopter at Lake Balaton. “In order for the pilots of the Standby Police (KR) to be able to make the right decision in every situation, they have to practice regularly. Such training is taking place this week at Lake Balaton,” the newspaper wrote.
