Threatened to vote a specific way on election day? A new Hungarian application offers solution

Change language:

Recently, concerns have increasingly emerged that some voters are being pressured (through threats to their jobs or livelihoods) to cast their ballots in a specific way. While such claims were long dismissed as urban myths, growing reports and posts in social media about these incidents suggest the phenomenon may be a real issue, particularly among vulnerable groups.

How does the “fake X” work?

A new solution, available via the Hamis-X (Fake-X in English) website, offers an alternative for the election day. The concept is simple: users take a photo of a blank ballot paper, then the application places a realistic, pen-drawn X onto the image. This edited photo can then be used as “proof” for those demanding evidence of a particular vote. Once the image has been created and shared, the voter is free to cast their actual vote in private, avoiding external pressure in the booth without complying with it in reality, writes Kreatív.hu.

Have you heard? Hungary has been rocked by claims of mass vote-buying ahead of 2026 elections.

Other options also exist, but not suggested

Beyond this technological workaround, other methods have been suggested. One approach is to inform election officials that the ballot has been spoiled and request a new one. Another option is – although not very helpful – to mark more than one choice after taking the photo, thereby invalidating the vote. Still, the Hamis-X application can help with safeguarding electoral freedom, which is a huge issue in Hungary today.

Fidesz-KDNP mayor “disgusted”, exits party after endorsing Tisza candidate

The mayor of Bátonyterenye, István Orosz, has announced his departure from the Fidesz-KDNP (Christian Democratic People’s Party) after endorsing the candidate of the opposition Tisza Party for the election.

In a Facebook post addressed to party leader and Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, Orosz confirmed that he had not been kicked out, but formally left the Fidesz-KDNP coalition and promised to explain his decision in greater detail in the coming days. The announcement came after another post in which the mayor declared his intention to support an opposition candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election.

  1. Polish foreign minister Sikorski expressed this opinion on the X social network.

The Polish diplomatic chief said Moscow supports Orban because he sabotages the European Union and blocks sanctions and funding for Ukraine.

“So, whoever supports Orban is helping Moscow. It’s really that simple,” he stated

    • Whoever supports Bruxelles supports the economic dismemberment of European countries, as well as racial and cultural replacement and dispersion of the peoples that created, and rightly inhabit, those countries.
