Attention: Thunderstorm alerts issued for 11 counties in Hungary as heatwave persists

Hungarian authorities have issued thunderstorm warnings for 11 counties as unstable weather conditions sweep across parts of the country, combining severe storms with high temperatures and strong UV radiation.
Thunderstorm warnings across the country
According to HungaroMet, the national meteorological service, thunderstorm alerts are currently in effect for the following counties: Zala, Veszprém, Vas, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Nógrád, Komárom-Esztergom, Heves, Hajdú-Bihar, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Pest, and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén.
Storms are most likely to develop on Sunday afternoon and evening, particularly in the northern and northwestern parts of the country. These storms may bring damaging wind gusts of 60–75 km/h, small hail, and heavy rainfall ranging from 10 to 20 mm. In isolated cases, more intense thunderstorms may occur, accompanied by stronger winds of up to 85 km/h and hailstones as large as 2 cm in diameter.
High temperatures and UV levels
Despite the storm risk, the heatwave continues. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to reach as high as 31°C, with particularly strong UV radiation, Időkép reports. In the southern and southeastern parts of the Great Hungarian Plain, average daily temperatures may exceed 25°C.
Looking ahead, the weather remains unsettled. Monday morning temperatures will range from 12 to 19°C, while daytime highs could soar to 30–36°C. Although storms are expected to be fewer in number on Monday, thunderstorm activity may still affect the northeastern and later the northwestern regions. Localised strong winds and small hail are again possible.
