Transfer News: Palkó Dárdai joins Vidi
Palkó Dardai was born in Berlin on the 24th April. His (surname) reveals almost everything, his father, Pál Dárdai, doesn’t even have to be introduced to anyone here in Hungary – and of course in Germany.
As for Palkó, a German and Hungarian citizen, he came through the ranks at Seeburger SV and then in the team of the 1st FC Wilmersdorf, he joined Hertha at the age of 12. To this day, the 1999 age group, of which he was a member, is still referred to as the club’s golden generation. In the 2013/2014 season, in addition to the U15 championship, the team won several prestigious cups, and in that season Pál Dárdai sat on the bench. In March 2017, Palkó scored on his debut for Hertha II in a 2-2 match against Carl Zeiss Jena, and then six months later, on the second of November, he also made his debut in the first team: In the 80th minute of the EL match against Zorja Luhansk, he was sent on by his father, who was already the head coach of Hertha BSC.
The day of the Bundesliga debut came on 28th April 2018, and we can add that the first league performance was very memorable: When he was sent on in the 71st minute of the match against Augsburg, the opponent led 2-0, but they came back to draw 2-2. Later, there were 8 more games in the Bundesliga where he played on both the right and left wing, and he will now be playing football outside Germany for the first time in his career.
„I had offers from Austria and the Netherlands, among others, but I wanted to continue my career at Vidi. My father never intervened in my career, and he didn’t do it now, it was my decision to move to Székesfehérvár. I have known the Fehérvár team since I was a child, my father and I visited the old Sóstó Stadium several times, but I was already lucky enough to see a Vidi match here, in the new MOL Aréna Sóstó. I am aware that this transfer will have serious news value primarily because of my father, but I am now working hard every day to get into the team and make sure the attention of the fans is not because of my name but as a result of my game. I would like to help Fehérvár with goals and assists, but I am not happy to talk about the distant future yet, the important thing is what is happening in the present. The opportunity to play is very important to me now, I will do my best to spend as much time on the pitch as possible. I want my performances to speak for myself. Sure, a lot of work awaits me, but our family has never been famous for being terrified of challenges. “–
commented Palkó Dárdai.
“Palkó came through one of the best footballing schools and already made his debut in the Bundesliga. He comes from a real football family with a strong tradition, but maybe everyone is aware of that. Despite his young age, he is sure to be able to create a suitable competitive situation within the team, and he is also a left footed player who can take set-pieces. We are proud that he has chosen us from several options” – commented director of football Zoltán Kovács.
