According to the website, in the late evening, around 10:45 pm, the German police wanted to stop a car as part of a motorway inspection to check the vehicle disposing of a number plate given explicitly to cars that are to be exported from the country.
The BMW vehicle, however, did not stop and left in a hurry at high speed in the pouring rain.
The police started to chase them but soon lost sight of the car, writes 24.hu.
Roughly 20 minutes later
the police received an emergency call about a car crashing in a tree nearby, in the little town of Tausendbach.
It turned out it was the same BMW they had just chased earlier. Seven people with Hungarian citizenship were travelling in the car. The driver, a 29-year-old man, lost his life at the scene, while one of his passengers, a woman, died after being taken to hospital. Some of the other passengers suffered severe injuries, as well. Three rescue helicopters took part in rescuing and treating the victims; one arrived from the Czech Republic.
According to the police’s spokesperson, so far, it is unknown why the driver refused to stop at the inspection and decided to flee. They set up an inspection group to find out details. However, the spokesperson also said that the car’s number plate originally belonged to a Mercedes.
