Uber turns 1 in Hungary: Uber Boat in Budapest & big news for Miskolc!

Uber returned to Budapest a year ago, and since then, it has not only brought change to urban transport but also to tourism. The anniversary was celebrated with a special innovation: the launch of the Uber Boat, which brings a whole new dimension to sightseeing. Budapest has now joined the ranks of European cities such as London, Paris and Mykonos, where Uber is now not only on the roads but also on the water.

The return of Uber Budapest is a real success: last year, users travelled more than 23 million kilometres on the platform. That’s roughly the equivalent of driving around the world six times along the equator. The user base has also grown rapidly, with nearly half a million people currently using the app in Budapest. The busiest period is between 4 and 7 PM on weekdays, with weekends being the busiest days.

According to Economx, these figures show that Uber has once again become an important player in the Budapest transport scene. The system receives particularly high ratings from both passengers and drivers. The average rating is between 4.95 and 4.96 stars, a strong indicator of user satisfaction. Now the Uber Boat service opens up new opportunities for locals and visitors alike, as the city presents a different face from the middle of the Danube. Uber’s undisguised aim is to make Budapest even more attractive to those who want to discover the hidden beauties of the Hungarian Capital, this time from the water with Uber Boats.

The Uber Boat experience

The Uber Boat is a seasonal special that Budapest residents and tourists alike can enjoy. The 15-minute sightseeing tours depart from the harbour near VigadĂ³ Square and return to the same place. The trips are provided by the local Duna Port Ltd, with a professional crew and licensed boats. The departure times are also convenient for travellers: in mid-June, the service was available for a longer period from 10 AM to 9 PM, but later it was reduced to between noon and 8 PM. The launch of Uber Boat also marks Budapest’s inclusion on the map of cities around the world where Uber offers water services, such as Ibiza, Venice and Athens.

Uber’s goal is not just to get people from A to B, but to provide an experience. Over the past year, Uber has introduced several innovations to the Hungarian market. Uber Comfort, for example, offers more comfortable, spacious cars where passengers can pre-set their preferred temperature or even indicate whether they want to talk to the driver or prefer a quiet ride. And all at the same price. Uber Green is an alternative for sustainability-minded passengers. This service only uses electric or hybrid cars, so you can drive to places such as Margaret Island, where cars are not allowed. Uber is therefore not only a new direction in urban transport in terms of convenience, but also in terms of environmental protection.

Expansion in Borsod county

The expansion doesn’t stop in Budapest. Uber is expanding its service to Miskolc in Hungary. As of the 13th of June, residents of the Borsod county seat will be able to use the app, making Miskolc the second Hungarian city to offer Uber. Uber’s partner in Hungary, F MobilitĂ¡s Ltd., attaches great importance to the inclusion of rural cities in the bloodstream of modern transport solutions. The new market creates opportunities not only for travellers, but also for local drivers, for whom the service can be an additional source of income. Uber’s goal is clear: to become a leader in the app-based transport solutions market in Hungary, and to continuously offer new alternatives to those looking for fast, comfortable and safe travel.
