Ukraine has sent a list to Hungary on how to help!

Hungarians can help Ukraine with ammunition and bulletproof vests? Ukraine has provided the Hungarian side with a list of needs to strengthen its defense capabilities, Nepop Ljubov, Ambassador of Ukraine in Hungary said in an interview with Azonnali.

Hungary’s relationship with Ukraine is complicated

The relationship between Hungary and Ukraine cannot be described as particularly balanced in recent years, but the leaders of the two countries often communicate through the media. The number one reason for this is the so-called Ukrainian language law which makes it difficult to educate about 150,000 Hungarian-speaking people living in the country. According to the passage, Hungarian can only be studied as a foreign language after certain years, and the education has to be entirely in Ukrainian. Incidentally, these are the arguments put forward by President Putin when he cites the mistakes made by Ukraine, as 20% of Ukraine’s population is Russian-speaking. The Hungarian government, therefore, does not support Ukraine’s application for EU or NATO membership due to years of conflict with Ukraine.

Both the Foreign Minister and the Prime Minister have showed their support for a common European position on this issue

After Monday night’s speech, when President Putin acknowledged the independence of the two eastern Ukrainian states in Russian television and indicated that he would send troops to the region, intensive discussions have begun in Hungary as well, so that the country could respond to the coming events. The Security Cabinet met early on Tuesday morning, and later the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Péter Szijártó informed the people that they would support the common European decision on this issue. The European Union has already decided on sanctions against 351 Russian parliamentarians, which required the support of all countries, although Hungary first asked for time before its coincident vote.

The list sent by the Ukrainians includes:

  • ammunition of different caliber,
  • protective helmets
  • bulletproof vests,
  • various military equipment, including defenses against unmanned aerial vehicles,
  • optical monitoring devices,
  • digital communication devices and
  • special medical vehicles.

The list also includes non-lethal military-technical assistance equipment: military food kits, mobile kitchens, tents, portable water purification stations, diesel generators, and more. The ambassador stresses that Ukraine does not expect anyone to join the fight, but with the right weapons it will be easier to resist a possible Russian attack, says index.hu.

Better to support Ukraine now, than wait till Russia would be next door?

The ambassador, Nepop Ljubov, also said that it was more in Hungary’s interest to help defend Ukraine now than to wait when it might have to defend itself in a later situation. Ukraine needs Hungary’s support against Russia’s aggression in the EU and NATO.
