US ambassador marks Raoul Wallenberg’s birthday
Budapest, August 4 (MTI) – Everybody can draw inspiration from the heroic sacrifice of Raoul Wallenberg and can find the same courage within themselves, US Ambassador Colleen Bell said at an event commemorating the Swedish diplomat’s birthday on Thursday.
Working in Budapest, Wallenberg saved the lives of thousands of Hungarian Jews during the second world war.
Wallenberg’s legacy is that he made the ultimate sacrifice when he did the right thing by helping to rescue Jews, the ambassador said at the event organised by the Raoul Wallenberg Association.
Everyone has a duty to stand up for victims, whether they are migrants, Roma, Jews or anyone else, Bell said.
Wallenberg was captured by Soviet forces in 1945 and disappeared.
