A 19-year-old Hungarian canoeist who won a silver medal at the Youth World Championships has died in a fatal accident.
For unknown reasons, a van collided with a Romanian truck. A talented young Hungarian athlete, Márk Csanki was killed in the multi-car accident. Both the Szeged Water Sports Association and the Hungarian Canoe Federation announced on their Facebook pages that Márk Csanki died tragically.
The silver medallist in the Youth World Championship and U23 age group was 19 years old.
According to the article of delmagyar.hu, Márk Csanki was killed in an accident on the M5 motorway near Inárcs on Friday evening.
For reasons still unknown, a van collided with a Romanian truck that was driving in front of it. After the collision, the van started to slow down and drifted towards the inner lane. The Peugeot Partner behind it crashed into the van, which crashed into the ditch on the side of the road. The Peugeot was then hit by a Mercedes off-road vehicle.
According to Blikk, the 19-year-old female driver of the Peugeot Partner was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the 19-year-old young man sitting next to her was rescued by firefighters. However, despite rapid intervention, his life could not be saved and he died at the scene. The deceased was later identified as Márk Csanki. The 21-year-old man driving the other van was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
