VIDEO: Astonishing Buda palace being rebuilt
Mihály Varga, Hungary’s finance minister, shared a video about the rebuilding of the former headquarters of the finance ministry in the Buda Castle. The palace was demolished after WWII but soon will open its gates again to provide a new home for the ministry.
The newest footage shows that the reconstruction of the former palace gives work for disappearing crafts like stonemasonry. Mr Varga added that several small, family businesses partake in the work.
The original building was designed by Sándor Fellner, who used only Hungarian materials and the workforce of the people of the Hungarian Kingdom. That is a crucial factor even in the reconstruction work.
The project aims to recreate the building. Thus, it can host the finance ministry in the Buda Castle district. Varga said it was more than just rebuilding. It was a rehabilitation. Everything will look like in the first half of the 20th century but will meet the requirements of the modern era.
The finance ministry and the Debt Management Agency will move into the building next summer.
