Weather in Hungary: Snow, fog, and double front

Hungary is facing several days of dull, wintry weather as a swirling cyclone above the country triggers a so-called “double front” effect, meaning cold and warm fronts will influence conditions at the same time.
According to meteorologists, this unstable setup is expected to dominate the weather in Hungary for the weekend and the start of next week, bringing clouds, fog, snow and mixed precipitation to many parts of the country.
Sad weather in Hungary for the next few days

Saturday will be largely overcast and gloomy, with persistent cloud cover and locally misty or foggy conditions. Precipitation is expected in many regions, falling as snow, sleet or rain depending on local temperatures.
While the heaviest snowfall is likely in hilly and mountainous areas, even low-lying regions could see a thin layer of snow. However, any snow cover is unlikely to last long, as temperatures remain marginally above freezing in several areas.
Daytime temperatures on Saturday will generally range between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius, with light to moderate northeasterly winds. Weather-sensitive people may experience headaches, migraines or blood pressure issues due to the combined cold and warm front effects, experts warn.
We will miss the sunlight on Sunday, too
The weather in Hungary will be unsettled on Sunday as well, with thick cloud cover dominating the sky and widespread fog in places. Snow and sleet are again expected across large parts of the country, with occasional rain in milder areas.
In eastern Hungary, there is also a risk of freezing rain during the early morning hours, which could make roads and pavements slippery. Winds from the north and northeast may strengthen in some regions.
Sunday morning temperatures are forecast to drop to between -8 and +1 degrees Celsius, with the coldest conditions expected in the northeast and in the Northern Mountain Range. By early afternoon, maximum temperatures will range from -1 to +6 degrees.
Monday may bring salvation
On Monday, the first half of the day may still bring light snow flurries or minor snowfall in some areas. However, conditions are expected to improve gradually during the afternoon.
Precipitation should cease nationwide, and cloud cover will begin to break up, allowing the sun to appear for short periods, especially in western and southern regions.
Winds will turn southeasterly but remain mostly moderate. Temperatures will range from -8 to 0 degrees in the morning, rising to between -1 and +5 degrees Celsius during the day.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, the weather in Hungary’s eastern and northeastern parts may start the day with brighter spells, but cloud cover is expected to increase across the country as a warm front approaches.
By the afternoon and evening, mixed precipitation could return to several regions. While freezing temperatures are likely in the morning nationwide, daytime highs could climb to between -1 and +7 degrees.
